My tv has a very narraow horizontal band of picture. You said in another similar post, that it was "Bad connection vertical output IC.........T". How would I fix this?
Same horizantal picture about 6 inches in width. Remainder area is blank.
Current service guy says parts (???) are not available to repair this problem. I've been waiting for 6 weeks for service guy to fix this
Techexpert12 is right!!! I had the same vertical compression in my Mit CS-40503.15 years old and still great. From the rear of the set the circuit board on the right near the front of the set has a group of capacitors near the vertical deflection IC (IC401).This is a LA7833 on a 3x3x1” heat sink (7 pin SIP).One capacitor (C935) had an oily patch around it (100uf, 50 v).I replaced this and C934 from radio shack and resoldered stuff in that area. Now all good.
I took some pictures with d camera to remember connector placement.Warning – wicked high voltage on that big old tube.
Check the vertical circuit some of the capacitors would have bulged up and you can normally see that on the boardremove that get the same ic from the hard ware shop fix through soldering and its done. whatever you do do it slowly and care fully, because hurry always makes worry.best of luck
Regardless of the model number, the problem is in the vertical circuit. There could be poor solder connections, bad capacitors and /or a defective vertical IC. If you know how to solder, you can fix this yourself. Look for a small flat IC with about 11 pins. It may be marked LA7837 or something similar (post the marking here so I can confirm the correct part). Resolder the pins on that IC first. If that does not resolve the problem, replace the IC. If the replacement does not completely resolve the problem, then some of the capacitors in the circuit are defective.
Try the items listed above first. It those fail, update this and I'll detail the mext steps.
As I stated before, the parts ARE available for this as I have repaired a number of these. I don't recall the specific part number, but if you follow the instructions above and report back here with your findings, we can proceed to resolve this for you.
Please update this so we can proceed.
Thanks,

HI, Your tv has problem with its vertical scanning side. vertical scanning
output ic (integrated circuit ) may have some problem ( faulty or dry
soldering in its leads). You can easily find out the vertical ic on your tv.
there will be four wire coming from the coil which is fitted on the
picture tube neck, of which 2 will goto horizontal scanning section and
the remaining two will go to vertical scanning section. just follow the
two thin wire (normally in color green and yellow ). it will goto a
socket on the main board. follow the track on the board. it will lead u
to vertical scanning section. check for any dry soldering, if not ,
replace the ic. ok
Bad vertical deflection circuit, unless you have a bad connection (bang on set to set it it fills out for a second) . you will need components replaced such as the IC, capacitors possibly a fuse from the power source to the vertical IC.
If its a bad connection soldering the IC pins is not to hard if you are OK with taking it apart yourself.

Does it change height? If so that is the problem with the vertical deflection. It is very rare for the picture to change in width since the is the horizontal deflection circuit, which also provides power, and instead of width problem you would have a dead TV. lol
Ok your problem is with the vertical deflection I assume. The cause could be a bad capacitor, The vertical output amplifier, or just a simple bad solder connection. If you want to know how to fix it let me know, but I have to say it is not that easy. In technicality I would rate it 8 out of ten.
The vertical IC has failed. Open up the back and look for a small flat IC attached to a heatsink. It should have about 11 pins or so and be marled LA3847 or something similar. First try resoldering the pins as it is common for the connections here to go bad. If that fails to resolve the problem, replace the IC.
It may cure the problem but I would suspect the 9 Volt source
CHECK C2P05 100 UFD 16 V OFF PIN 3 OF IC2P01 AND
IC2P01 PART # 270P466020 (9-VOLT REGULATOR). BOTH
ARE ON THE SIGNAL PCB.
