I have the same problem. How do you reset the ink level details after refilling the cartridges? The ink level in both cartridges are ok and the printer will print, but the ink detail window still says ink level is low. Please help

Don't use refill kits, they are no good in quality printers. Also the cartridges in the newer models have a chip in them that knows when the cartridge is empty. When it becomes empty, the chip has to be reset, and this is what those mall cartridge fillers do.

E, 1, 3 The ink may have run out. The function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled since the ink level cannot be correctly detected. If you want to continue printing without this function, press the machine's Stop (Reset) button for at least 5 seconds. Canon recommends to use new genuine Canon cartridges in order to obtain optimum qualities. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any malfunction or trouble caused by continuation of printing under the ink out condition. The machine considers as ink is full when a new FINE cartridge is installed, and then starts to detect a remaining ink level. My canon PIXMA MP450 all-in-on-printer is showing U059 the following ink cartridge cannot be recognized i tryed to put the old ink tank in but it said the same thing

Basically, there is no solution for your case. This happens especially for Canon product.(called e5 error) Once a cartridge is not recognizable, there is no way, you can use it.
The only way you can do is, replace with brand new one. This is typical Canon problem especially when you refill or re-use your cartridges.
You may see some solution from web such as reset the printer, do somthing to printer software... But non of these methods are working.. Even if there is one, it must be very difficult to do it for individual users.

However, as for a prevention, make sure unplug the power cords before insert or eject the cartridge from printer. In that way, you can at least reuse your cartridges for refill. Hope it helps.

Dear Adviser The Canon cartridges for my Pixma MP140 printer have run out of ink as indicated both on the printer by the E4 signal and on the computer by a pop up window when trying to print a...

Hello, the printer Canon Pixma MP140 has cartridges with no chips. The printer reads the serial from the cartridge and tells you an estimated ink level. My recomandation is to press the resume/cancel buton for at least 10 seconds, that being the method to cancel the ink counter. After you press the resume/cancel buton you will be able to print, scan and copyas you did before.
The only disadvantage is that your printer will never show the ink level for this set of refilled cartridges, but it will work as well as brand new cartridges.

If you get a warning regarding Ink is Empty and even you cannot Scan your documents then you might require a small R&D, Just hold Stop/Reset button for about 5 seconds, then open cartridge access door, Remove both the Cartridge's and wipe it with the wet tissue or cloth... spray water or deodorant on the exposed golden surface of the cartridge and do not let it dry, install as soon as possible... Then close the cartridge access door and switch off your printer, then Re-start it and connect to your computer, Hold Stop/Reset button for 5 seconds and then enjoy scanning...

Code E4

A Canon MP145 E4 Error Code means that your Printer didn't detect the Ink Cartrigde. It sometimes happen when you're using a non-original cartridge or infusing it. When Canon Printer detect this abnormality, the first Canon self defense system is by Stop Printing. And then displaying some messages on your Computer Screen, indicating that your ink cartridge have to be replaced because it's EMPTY.

Below are the manual way to correct this problem :
  1. Turn On Your Printer.
  2. Wait Till The Printer Led Screen Show The Error Code ( E4).
  3. Then Press and Hold Black & Color Button for about 5 - 10 seconds.
Hope that your problem is solved.

Refilled cartridge, mx310 does not recognise they are refilled and I get 1686 error can you help please

You need to buy the little circuit board that is on the cartridge. The chip tells the machine that the ink is empty. If you're going to refill, you need the chips as well or a chip resetter.
