Your screen may have a loose connection between the hinge and the screen or the screen was damaged. Replacing a screen through a manufacturer is hundreds of dollars around $300 to be specific. But you can find a local place that will do it for cheaper. I own a local computer repair business that can usually to it for $200

Hello,

Vertical lines are usually caused by 2 things, either your graphics card is going bad or your LCD screen is going bad. How you check if it is your Graphics card by plugging in a desktop monitor. If the line is not on the desktop monitor then your graphics card is good. Then that means your screen is going bad.

I hope this helps.

Best of luck!!

You may have a deal line on your LCD.

Check to see if the blue line is there in or out of windows. If it shows up before windows boots up it seems as though its a physical issue with the LCD or video controller.

My next suggestion would be to hook up an external monitor to your laptop to see if it replicates the issue there. If the issue is not present on the external monitor that means its an issue with the LCD on the laptop.

If you're daring attempt to take the panel off the top of the laptop by the crease where the screen and body meet. generally there is a cable that is visible that the LCD plugs into the Motherboard on the laptop. Check to make sure it is secure and tight. Lose cables/connections can easily cause this issue.

It could be either that your LCD or your graphics card is going bad. If your laptop is under warranty, I would send it in to be repaired immediately.

SOURCE: Blue line down monitor screen of laptop

I have had the same problem

This happens from overheating or from physically abusing the screen

I have an acer, which can take a lot of punishment, but i throw it around and keep it on 24/7 until it gets so hot the plastic starts to smell and melt

Awesome computer, it still works very well for the price (500$)

It developed blue lines on the screen lately and i know from previous experience acer will replace your screen as this may be a factory problem

If you're a freak like me who runs his computer all the time though, they aren't going to listen to you for one second and you have to deal with it

A) Dont use your computer as much (that sometimes fixes it)
B) Buy a better cooling deck
C) Dont abuse the screen (any bending or even the slightest tap can kill it)
D) If the problem doesnt go away, make peace with it and get used to it
E) Replace the screen (i dont want to, so now i have kewl blue lines on my screen)

Screen particially blacking out with vertical lines at bottom of my DELL laptop. at the bottom of laptop screen there are vertical lines @ 2" they are blue, dark gray, white, purple, light green lines....

Tryconnecting an external monitor to the laptop. You may have to select the videooutput to display on the external monitor by holding down the blue key and pressing the blue CRT/LCD (located on one of the keys, likeF8,F9, etc..). If the problem occurs on the external monitor with the batteryor AC power, then you have a problem with either the video card or motherboardin the laptop. If the problem does not happen using the external monitor thenyou laptop's LCD display is going bad.

Blue line down monitor screen of laptop, initially. Occasionally there are two blue lines and two blue and a red one.

either the screen is damaged or the convertor is faulty. Suggest drop into local repair shop. If extra lines come aftre extended use then likely to be the convertor at fault

Blue vertical line on my desktop

The blue lines are a sign that the screen itself is failing. You can try to reseat the data cables from the motherboard to the back of the screen, but in most cases this is indicative of an immenent screen failure.

My laptop screen has a thin blue line going down, why has this happened?

You have the beginning of a failing Display panel, and will eventually need to replace the display.. you can hold the top left and right sides of the display screen-slightly bend forward and back, you should see the blue line either go away or it will produce more lines...

This is due to a short on the circuit board panel on the backside of the display panel that controls the Pixels on the Screen.. The Pixels are controlled In a Line Grid Fashion...

My toshiba laptop has a thick white line down the screen

The normal cause of lines across the LCD of a laptop is a damaged video cable. The unusual cause would be the video card itself.

To determine which item is at fault, you need only attach an external monitor to your laptop's video-out, and then swap your monitor view to 'both' or mirrored (usually just the function key (FN), plus one of the Fkeys...look for an off-blue picture of a monitor on the Fkeys).

If the lines across the screen also appear on an external monitor, then the video card is damaged.

If the lines only appear on the laptop's LCD, but not the external monitor, then just the laptop's internal video cable is damaged.

Hope this helps.

Blue line down right hand side of screen

If you are confident enough to open screen bezel and take out screen , then the second strap from right of your screen has a bad connection. theses cannot be repaired but as a tempory measure some duct tape across the connections will cure it, else replace the screen.
