Why doesn't my Garmin Nuvi 660 have audible voice prompts anymore?

Is it still under warranty? If so, or even if not, call the Company, it could be a Manufacturer defect!

No voice.

Does everything else work the way it should? I am assuming you have the voice announcements turned on. Try it with the voice announcements turned off and just audible cues turned on. If it doesn't sound right on that setting, the audio chip on the main board is bad.

How to adjust the volume? Volume is barely audible. Tom Tom 550TM

You can use the PREFERENCES menu option to change the volume of the voice instructions. Use 'Volume preferences' pref06.gif, with its sliding scale to set the required volume in increments of 5%.

The 'Test' function is a good way to get the volume right before starting your journey. You may also find it helpful to use 'Link volume to car speed', so that the voice instructions get louder as road noise increases and are at their quietest when you are stationary.

My GARMIN nuvi 205WT has stopped talking to me. I have checked the "mute" and it is switched off. The unit shows me the way as I drive and gives audible warnings of speed. How do I get it to speak to me...

1. Press Tools, then press Settings (or Locale on some models), then press Language. You will see a bar for Voice. Press Voice and select a different voice. If this doesn't solve the problem it's most likely because the voice file has become corrupted. To replace the corrupted file.
2. Download webupdater from and connect your satnav to your computer. Install webupdater and your satnav will look for updates. After it's finished it will give you an option to download voices. Click the ones you want and press next. The voices selected will be downloaded to your satnav.
When you have removed the satnav from the computer you'll need to select a voice again as described in para 1 above.

Tom Tom clicks constantly

Unfortunately the device is not very user servicable. Your best bet wuold be to find a repair shop and get a quote on repair vs. new.

Have you tried someone elses car cradle? There is a small amp in the car cradle which is probably fried, Is it under warranty? If so ship it back, if not, find another zumo user to test if it's the cradle or not, then still try Garmin, if the response is 'no warranty', shop for a cradle on ebay..seen them NEW for less than $ 50

All audible sounds have recently stopped working

I would have a look at the earphone socket. There is a small switch inside the socket that is designed to mute the built in sound when the headset is in. If there is some dust or damage in the socket, or the jack is bent, you will have sound problems. Try blowing the socket out, and rotating the headphone jack in the socket to determine if that is what it is. Depending on your confidence, you could attempt to dismantle it yourself and repair/replace the socket.
