Use the printer's utility program to self-clean the printer. This process may need to be repeated as many as 5 to 10 times. Often this will resolve the problem.

Turn the printer off, preferably overnight, if the self-cleaning utility has not worked. The ink may need to soften before the self-cleaning utility will be successful. Turn the printer on and try the self-cleaning utility again several times.

Determine from the owner's manual where the print head is located. Epson printers, for example, are usually in the printer. Many other brands place the print head in the cartridge.

Remove the cartridge. For models where the print head is in the printer, drop seven to 10 drops of isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) down the ink receptacle area. This is the hole where the ink flows into the head from the cartridge. Run a few self-cleaning utilities. If necessary, allow to sit a few hours or overnight and repeat the self-cleaning utility.

Soak the cartridge print head in hot water if the print head is in the cartridge. Allow to soak overnight. Dry the print head area with a paper towel. Repeat the self-cleaning utility.

Place the cartridge print head in isopropyl alcohol if the hot water soak did not unclog the print head. Leave the print head covered in alcohol overnight. Use a damp paper towel to wipe off the print head area. Dry carefully. Try the self-cleaning utility again.

Purchase a new cartridge if the alcohol soak did not unclog the print head in the cartridge. This will provide new print heads that won't be clogged. Contact a service technician for repair of print heads in the printer if the alcohol did not unclog the print head.

Make sure your printer is updated. The firmware update, available in the Lexmark website, will help fix printhead-related problems. Follow these steps: 1. Remove the printhead from the printer.

    2. Reset the printer by unplugging the power adapter from the printer (should be the whole black box on the back of the printer), leave it unplugged for about a minute then plug it back in.
    3. Once the printer is back on, it will ask for the printhead. Just disregard the message by pressing or CANCEL button on your printer screen. Do not install the printhead yet.
    4. Then, please use this link: http://bit.ly/p705fw to download and run the firmware on your computer. Please make sure that the USB cable is attached from the printer to the computer while you do this.
    5. Once the firmware update is complete, you may reinstall the printhead.

SOURCE: printhead problem for dell v715w printer It reads

You can download the guide from the Dell site... but don't waste your time. The printhead has a burned-up jet, and Dell charges as much for a printhead as for a whole new printer; just called them with the same problem. Cleaning it will most likely NOT help. The printheads are available on Amazon for around $55US. The printer is an awful ink-hog, and has terrible reviews on Amazon. Basically: open the top (below the scanner lid) and the printhead will center itself in the access hole. Pop the two ink cartridges out. There is a tab on the frame that carries the ink cartridges, towards the front of the printer; pull this (or push?) a little and lift the arm up (pivots at the rear.) The printhead will lift out (do so from the rear, where the ink latches are... it comes out easier this way.) Invert the printhead... you'll probably see four shiny gold "ribbons," one of which will be blackened. You can try wiping a lint-free cloth across this (coffee filters work well), but don't be surprised if this fails to help. I'm already shopping for it's replacement; last Dell product I'll ever own. They are an awful company to deal with.

      Printhead replacement

If all of your cartridges are good and full of ink and you have done all to clean and still cannot get printer to print a test page then your print head is fubar and in need of replacement. Not cheap and often better to get new printer than replace the print head.

It keeps saying that there is a problem with the printerhead. please consult users guide

The error could be due to an outdated firmware version or a poor connection between the printhead and carrier contacts. Follow the steps below to fix the problem:
      1. From the printer control panel, press the Setup button > Maintenance > Replace Printhead, or for touchscreen panels, touch Ink Levels > More Options > Replace Printhead. 2. Open the printer cover. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer/unplug the printer from the power source and then slide the carrier to the center. 3. Press the tab, and lift the latch. Pull up to remove the printhead. Close the printer cover then turn off the printer/unplug the printer from the power source. 4. Turn the printer back on. It will ask you to "Open Cover to Install the Printhead". Press the Cancel (Red X) button or the Home icon for the touchscreen panels. It should take you back to the "Copy" menu. 5. Proceed with the firmware update. Just go to http://bit.ly/p205fw. 6. Once the firmware update is successful, firmly re-insert the printhead.
If error continues to display on the screen even after successfully updating your printer, it could be due a faulty printhead. Please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center or visit Lexmark's website for additional assistance.

That error is a carriage travel error, the printhead is not moving freely. Most often paper scraps either on the extreme right side where the printhead parks, or on the extreme left side where it's hard to see.
