Question about Canon PIXMA MX300 All-in-One Printer

Smudgy Photo orints

I use HP High Gloss paper on my mx 300, but prints appear very smudgy, almost like too much ink is deposited. I have the same problem with my Ipi4300. Cartridges are new and clean. How can I get clear prints? Peter.

Thanks, the correct side I take, is the glossy side. If I print on the other, (normal paper side) will the ink penetrate to set itself under the glossy layer?

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. Will try Canon paper instead and I'm sure it will work. I'll rather stick to my "Canons". Will let you guys know how it worked.

Make sure you are printing on the correct side of the paper. Most photo paper is single-sided. If you print on the wrong side, the ink sits on the surface, pulls up into very small drops, and remains wet for quite a while. If you print on the correct side, the image should be dry to the touch within 15-30 seconds.

I have not used the HP High Gloss paper, but I am guessing that you should be printing on the glossy side. Here is a link that contains a cross section of typical photo paper. The printing side allows the ink to pass through the surface into the pulp in the center of the paper. The other side, the back coating layer, is impermeable to the ink. If you print on this side, the ink will sit on the surface and bead up (the image will look faded with no definition), and will take a long time to dry so that if you touch it, it will smear. Believe me, I think everyone learns this by trial and error. I know I did!

There's a lot of technology in photo paper. I guess that's why it costs so much.

Hi Juliet

EPSON STYLUS 1400 INKJET PRINTER PHOTO PAPER AND PRINTER SETTINGS

Formulating solutions based on remote diagnostics with just the detail in the question to go by is an inevitably imprecise science. We therefore aim to give our suggestions as wide an ambit as possible to cover all possible scenarios, abilities and experience levels. I suppose the best approach to initial FixYa solutions is to see them as an options list from which you can cherry pick the most relevant and practical ones. The Comment Box then provides the opportunity to fine tune the information flowing both ways. An updated picture after implementation of the relevant suggestions and additional background (such as whether the printer printed properly before and what paper choice of print setting changes since then may have caused the problem to first occurr, the remedies you have already tried, the specifications of you computer and its Opreating System) can then lead to more tailored suggestions.

There are many different types of Photo Paper and your Epson Printer has different Print Settings for each type. Matte paper, at the microscopic level, has more surface area than smoother papers and therefore has greater absorptive properties which, in turn, require a larger than usual amount of ink in order to produce an image with good resolution, than is the case for smoother papers. So Matte setting on a less absorbent paper type can cause excess ink issues and the problems you describe. The correct setting for each type of paper is the setting matching what is printed on the packaging of each respective type of paper (fabric, textured, matte, soft gloss, semi-gloss, gloss, high gloss, ultra gloss, premium gloss, etc).

Start > Control Panel > printers and faxes > right click on Epson Stylus 1400 icon > printing preferences > main > select 'Photo' or 'Best Photo' > click on the arrow next to 'Type' to reveal the drop down menu to select each Photo Paper Type you test > Apply > OK > restart printer > test Photo Printing again.

It is, for creative reasons, possible to deliberately use mismatched Photo Papers and Print Settings for artistic effect, but the results are unpredictable and matte settings for smoother, less absorbent papers can cause similar problems to those you describe. My advice to you would be to buy a variety of small packs of different papers to experiment with. Your enhanced aesthetic instincts will help you identify the best paper for the outcome you envisage. As a place to start, please consider examples of potential paper ideas by clicking on or copy/pasting-to-browser the links/URLs below:

So, please just set the printer settings to match each type of paper you trial to be 100% safe but there is also some margin for experimentation. With this in mind, you should be fine.

I hope this helps.

Wet smudgy lines on printing 6x4" photos, on glossy kodak photo paper. Ok bon plain paper

Before you hit the [Print] button, click on the [Properties] button. Then you have to find the setting where you select various types of paper. Select Glossy Photopaper and see if that helps.

Hi. my photo printing results is not so good on normal paper. plz tell me vat is the problem. i want to print photo in best resolution on ordinary paper.i.e (Double A paper)

Printing photos on ordinary paper do not come out well because the ink soaks into the paper like a blotter. I suggest you use semi-gloss or high gloss photo paper for best photo quality prints..

Photo Paper keeps jamming

It's the top rollers, the paper is too slick to get through them. I'm using HP photo paper, in an HP printer. It needs to do a 180, but gets jammed right where it prints, so the paper never makes it to the ink. It's an engineering problem by HP. I suggest putting a rough surface on the top edge of the photo paper, something removable but rough enough for the printer to pull the photo paper through.

Prints pictures too dark

II have had the same problem and it relates(at least to me) the type of paper yuo are using and the settings you place on the paper. With high glossy photo paper I was using the setting for that and then I switched to photo and text and set it for plain photo paper.

If that does not work then save the image to a photo soiftware such as windows fax and viewer and print it through that. You can lighten it especially for high gloss photo paper. Good luck This worked for me, The gloss photo settings made all m,y photos way too saturated on glossy photo paper.and much too dark.
