This is a very common problem with windows laptops. This may or may not help but here goes. unplug power. then unplug battery from laptop. Now plug only power cord into laptop. Now turn on and start tapping the F2 fuction key. Once it goes into bios make sure that your boot order is cdrom first. Then save it and reboot with the bootable cd in the drive.
Also if now of this works unplugged Hard drive and see if it will boot up at all and into the bios setting. If you are not able to boot into the cmos make sure also that no cd is in the cdrom drive.
goto run and type "compmgmt.msc"(without quotes) and select disc management if the dvd drive is showing below the hard disks means your dvd drive is working fine only thing you have to do is to right click on the CD-Rom 0 and change drive letter and paths to it .if the CD ROM option is not seen in disk management then you have to go to the device manager option under computer management and expand cd/dvd -rom drives and you will find your dvd drive model if not that means that your dvd drive has got hardware problem
For this model there is updates available for the CD/DVD driver.
1. Major advantages of first update:
- Resolves an issue where sometimes the drive will not read discs. - Resolves an issue where the optical drive icon displays incorrectly after inserting blank formatted DVD media. *Download this update*
2.Advantages of second update.
- CD/DVD drives may not appear in My Computer. *Download this update* Hope this will resolve the issue with CD/DVD drive.Best of luck!!!
I've taken a lot of drives out of laptops and
usually they are easy to remove and just have a button you need to
press to pop them out or they are held with a single screw underneath
around the center back of the drive. Those two possibilities should
have you covered, and I have rarely found optical drives to be
difficult to remove from laptops.
On this, you're going to need to uninstall the drivers for the CD/DVD drive from the device manager, then reboot. The machine will find the drive and reinstall the drivers. If this doen't work, then most likely the optical eye or the reader board in the drive has gone out and the drive will need to be replaced. These drives are very simple, they work or they don't, there's really no in between with them, and if their not working then replacement is the only option.
did you clean the optical lens? if you do so, then you've got same problem,my suggestion is, you just purchase a new dvd rom drive, because your dvd has optical lens problem. it happened to me a long time ago with my client, what i did i open the laptop then i changed it with a brand new dvd rom drive. If you are going to repair that dvd it is not advisable, it might be back when the same problem.
