The power window controls for my forester no longer work. Worked sporadically for a while and stopped altogether. Not hearing any motor noise. How do I remove the door panel and what should I check for?

  • Anonymous Feb 28, 2011

Is it just one control/window that has stopped working? Or is it all of them?

  • loufleury Mar 02, 2011

The only windows that work are the front and back passenger-side windows (the back window is reacting worryingly slow when going up so I think it's the next to go). None of the controls on the driver side work - the driver window was the only one that functioned from this control panel, but no more. (We bought the car second hand and so it is maybe 3-5 yrs old)

The switches are self contained and non serviceable so the only thing to do would be to replace the switch, which unfortunately i think your problem is. However it would be a good idea to take the door panels off and check for loose connectors.

Here is a link to a Subaru Forester owners forum which you can find a wealth of info on (I own an Outback and the forums have saved my behind numerous times). You will have to sign up to view the PDF on door panel removal but its a small price to pay, and hey, it's free. Hope this helps!

The clicking noise doesn't mean anything , relay controls one touch down . Just means relay is probably working ! Take the door panel off an check power to the switch , motor . Watch this videos . Test the electrical circuit The Trainer 24 Power Window Troubleshooting

The fan on my heater/ac stop working on settings 1-4 for awhile it worked on #5 but has now stopped altogether

The blower resistor has gone out but if blower is no longer working on speed 5 then either the blower motor is bad as well or the pigtail connector to the motor are bad. Check the plugs to the resistor and to the blower motor for insulation damage discolored or melted wiring.

Drivers side window not working. I can manually move it up in down with my hand but the power window does not move when the switch is used. All other windows work. Drivers side makes a clicking/grinding...

IF there is a grinding noise then the motor is trying to move, so take out he unit and try to see if the motor works , if so the mechanism is faulty or the motor does not have power in the drive.
can be the driver switching the motor or the motor itself. Replace after testing the transistor drive.

1998 Park Avenue Drivers window seems to twist slightly when going down, stopping the window, usually within the first inch or two. this only happens sometimes, and does not depend on weather or temp. do...

Sounds like a track problem. It happens sporadically because the track will occasionally align itself when the window is closed, allowing you to open the window normally but will work itself away fromthe door after you open it. You probably hear a strange noise when closing the window. The track needs repair. This will require opening the door panel to secure the track or replace it altogether.

Driver side window not going up or down

It is most likely a wire that became disconnected at the switch, if neither windows work, it is likely a fuse.

Front wipers worked sporadically, then died altogether.

Hi! Yes the problem is related. The wiper motor is shorting out, which is causing it to work periodically and is also causing a drain on the battery.
