TV was set to 3 as was the modulator. Switching to 4 with the modulator did not bring up the DVD picture. Total loss as to what to do. Alice

I bought a new modulator from radio shack and new video and audio cables. It is the only TV in the house that requires that set up to view a DVD. thanks for your help, Alice

  • AlicedeO Jul 29, 2008

No. Will see if I can get a verizon tech to come to the house to puzzle this out. They are no help via phone conversation. thanks, Alice

Hi Dan, I ended up hooking up the DVD to a second TV I had and placed it next to the Zenith. That way my daughter can do her excercise videos and/or watch TV. I will try hooking every up again with your last advice in mind. That might have been my problem all allong. thanks so much, Alice

same poblem as Alice, except we have Buckeye Cable. Do not have the remote to the TV, ony use cable remote. Toshiba (video recorder) not helpful. Need to change auxiallary button???

  • AlicedeO Jul 31, 2008

Way to go Dan! You reasoned out my error in the connection sequence and now everything works as it is supposed to do! The key is (for everyone out there) the last connection should be from the DVD player to the TV. Thanks a million! And to think I spoke to three different Verizon Tech support people who did not surmise maybe I did not connect things properly... Again, thanks. Alice Cardamone

If you are using a modulator, usually that sends a signal to channel 3 or 4. Select either 3 or 4 and you should get the signal. The modulator should have a switch to enable you to select one of those channels. Selecting the Video input is when the DVD is connected using the audio and video cables (Red/White/Yellow)

Ok. Lets work through this. Do you get a startup screen picture from the DVD or nothing at all? If nothing, I would look for a fault in the modulator. Is there any way to try the modulator on another set? It is still unclear whether the problem is with the modulator or the TV. Can you receive other channels? If so, I would suspect the modulator.

    keep me posted.

Did the new modulator resolve the problem?

  • ABRsvcs Jul 30, 2008

Thanks for the update. Lets try something else. With teh Verizon STB, are you connected to the RF connector or another input to the TV? The DVD must be the last thing inline to the set. In other words, you can not connect the DVD output to the settop box and then to the set. The DVD output contains a guard band that will prevent the passthru from working.

    Let me know what happens.

Does the phillips flat screen tv have to be on a particular channel to operate the dvd player

Yes it has to be on the right av/ext

If you have connect the DVD player via a Scart lead all you have to do when your TV is on is then turn the DVD player power on and this should auto change your channel for you..... The scart lead send a voltage upto the tv so this changes the channel for you.

If this for any reason does not work. Then you will have to use your remote for the TV to flick through the AV/source button until you get to the DVD

Hope this helps you out.

Denon AVR-488 , problems routing cable box through receiver to tv

If you don't have one, the manual is available online:

1. Reset to default values. Per page 36 of manual: 1. Turn off Power. 2. Press Power while simultaneously pressing Speaker A and Speaker B. 3. Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.

2. Make sure you have AM or FM radio reception. This makes sure your speakers, amps, etc are connected and working correctly.

3. Connect DVD player to HDMI 1 in and TV to HDMI Monitor Out.
Play a known good DVD that works when you connected the DVD directly to the TV via HDMI.

Select the DVD/HDP input on the receiver and play the DVD. You should not have to perform any input assignments, etc. It should just work, as HDMI1 is the default system setting for DVD.

4. If possible, obtain a STB with HDMI out & repeat step 3 using the HDMI2 TV/CBL input. Keeping the signal path all digital (HDMI) will give you a better picture quality than forcing several analog to digital conversions (component video is analog).

4A. To use the component connection, first test by connecting the STB directly to the TV via component video/audio if possible. This tests that the component video output of the STB is working correctly.

Next, remove direct connection and connect via receiver. Connect STB to receiver as shown on page 13 in manual. Connect component video output from STB to component video input #2 (tv/cbl) on receiver. Connect the STB audio output to the corresponding tv/cbl audio inputs.

Make sure nothing is connected to the HDMI2 input or to any other TV/CBL inputs (composite video, s-video, digital coax audio).

Now select the TV/CBL input and turn on the STB. You should have both audio & video.

Bought 2 DTT-9900 converter boxes and hooked them to 2 TV's, get signals after playing around with antenna. but after using both TV's to play a dvd (dvd player hook to TV) The sound went down to almost...

Try turning off the converter box when using the DVD player. The zenith have a second sound control on the converter box remote thus you may have to adjust the sound on the tv remote because you are using the dvr. I set the zenith sound level at the highest level and use on the tv remote only to adjust sound. This eliminated a hiss that the sound control on the converter box was causing.
