My Iomega 1tb external hard drive cant be found by the computer, I get the confirming sound when I connect it, the driver says its there, but my computer wont show it. Why?
I have tried connecting it to several computers, they cant find it either, but give the same confirming sound. I use the same wires though.
Please help, there are some pictures on the hard drive I would love to get back

Theres is probally a problem with the cables you are using. Try using other cables and see if this solves the problem. If not then the hard drive has most likely failed.

If your computer and external hard drive are connected via the USB cable, you can select your picture file, right click it and hit 'copy' then go into My Computer, find the External Hard Drive and right click it and select Paste.
Your pictures are now on the External Hard Drive.

this program will allow you to clone your hard drive directly to your external, you can then expand the partition using 'disk management' which can be found typing it into the 'run' window from the start menu.
this will erase the external drive however and i wouldnt recommend booting from it externally.
This is an issue with iomega external drives in which the drive won't show up on My Computer as a drive. This can be verified by connecting the external drive to an Ubuntu machine and see if it's being detected. If it is then the best thing to do is reformat the drive on Ubuntu using GParted then connect back the external drive on windows. Check this link for a similar issue.

just make sure both power and data cables are properly plugged and connected respectively. if you are using it with a desktop, please always plug your usb connection from the Iomega 1TB external drive to the rear USB port in line where you built-in LAN is.do not plug it in the frontload ports. some motherboard manufacturers uses usb 1 and/or 1.1 only for frontload desktop casing provision.
It depends on how it is connected to the computer. A drive connected through an eSATA port should be able to format 1TB in just 1 - 2 hours depending on how loaded the system is (background processes/services, other use while it is formatting, etc). If it is connected via USB2.0, you are looking at approximately 6.3 times longer or up to 13 hours.
If you could reach and constantly maintain the theoretical maximum throughput on eSATA, it would only take about 45 minutes.
