SOURCE: rice cooker vs a crocpot/slow cooker

I have both and use both for different things. The rice cooker cooks faster than the slow cooker. What the Crockpot does really well, the rice cooker cannot do. For example, with the crock pot, you can buy less expensive cuts of meat and because of the slow cook method, they will be tender, juicy, and delicious. You can make soups, stews and casseroles in a crock pot and the great thing is that you can turn it on low, go to work, and when you come home, dinner is done. You can cook the same types of things in a rice cooker but you can't leave it all day. You CAN saute', fry, etc,. in your rice cooker which you can't do in a crock pot but for dense veggies and tougher cuts of meat, stew beef for example, there's no comparison. I have an Oster Rice Cooker and Steamer which I use nearly every day. I cook rice, obviously, casseroles, veggies, spaghetti and meatballs, all kinds of side dishes and soups in it. I use the crockpot several times a week but more often in the Fall and Winter when I make soups, stews, chilis, roasts and BBQ. Oh my gosh, you have to try BBQ Ribs in the crock pot! They melt in your mouth. Go to Yahoo! Groups. You'll find all kinds of great info for both your rice cooker and crock pot. I have one of the fancier, more expensive crock pots because I take it to work with me one day a week for lunch. The lid seals and it comes with a carrier. If you do most of your cooking at home, you can spend a little less and get a good one. I recommend getting one that has at least 3 heat settings though. Different foods require different temps. Happy Cooking!

SOURCE: Rice burning at bottom of cooker

I also have this problem and I fixed it by adding in a little more water and by removing the power cord from the outlet immediately after the cooker finishes it's cycle. Not ideal, but it does save my rice.

Have a kitchen gourmet rice cooker can I cook beef stew in this item

A rice cooker is specifically designed for cooking rice and may not be suitable for preparing complex dishes like beef stew. Rice cookers typically have a simple on/off mechanism that doesn't allow for the same level of control and versatility as a stovetop or slow cooker.
However, some modern rice cookers come with additional features and settings, such as a "steam" or "simmer" function, which might allow you to prepare simple stews or soups. It's essential to consult the user manual that came with your specific rice cooker to understand its capabilities and limitations.
If your rice cooker has a steam or simmer function, and it is made of materials that can withstand cooking with liquids and high temperatures, you might be able to prepare a basic beef stew. Still, keep in mind that the results may not be the same as using a dedicated stovetop pot or slow cooker, as rice cookers are not designed for complex recipes.
Always prioritize safety and follow the manufacturer's guidelines when using kitchen appliances for purposes other than their intended use. If you're unsure about using your rice cooker for beef stew, it's best to opt for traditional cooking methods like using a stovetop or slow cooker to ensure the best results and safety.

Just bought this zojirushi rice cooker NS-RNC10 a year ago and suddenly can only cook half way and the rice is not fully cooked. It looks like the switch changes too early from cook switch to keep warm...

Make sure the bottom of the bowl and the inside of the cooker itself where the bowl rests are clean. If they are not the cooker will think the rice is cooked when it is not.

The white rice turns brown and it smells after only 2 or 3 days.

Nothing. Cooked rice should be immediately refrigerated if not used and used within a couple of days, to do otherwise can be fatal.

Your cooked rice is discolouring due to either bacterial or fungal growth, either due to remaining spores in the cooker between each load, or just due to environmental effects. So far, you've been extremely lucky not to suffer very severe food poisoning.

Does steam tray/lid go on top or bottom of rice cooker?

The steam tray as you call it goes on the inside bottom of the cooker. It's purpose is to keep the cooking rice separated from the heating element during the steaming process. The basic measurement is 2 parts water to 1 part rice. Add a quarter cup more water for brown rice. The automatic shut-off won't turn off until the water is gone. It's magic! Cleaning; soak the cook pot and perforated plate to remove rice goo DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL PADS or abrasive cleanser. I use a nylon dish cleaning brush to remove the stuck on brown material.
