I have a 40G NEO Laptop computer. I have a lot of pictures, music, and videos stored in it. It has started to run really slow lately. I can't even run two programs at the same time. What can I do? I tried those registry cleaner programs, I don't know if they help. Thanks!

Re: Slow Laptop Computer
There could be a variety of reason(s) why the laptop is slow. If initially the unit was fast enough for your applications, it maybe that there are a number of programs running simultaneously and/or harmful to your PC. Pls try:
run/scan with your antivirus and/or an online virus scanner/remover;
Download AdAware by Lavasoft, install, scan and delete unwanted entries;
Go to Start, Run, type "msconfig", goto Startup tab and uncheck all programs except those that you feel are necessary such as your antivirus;
In your System Properties Advanced tab, Performance Settings button, select "Adjust for best performance", and in the Advanced tab, change your Virtual Memory to double your onboard real memory.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

If your laptop is running slow and applications are taking a long time to load here are some tips that may help you solve your problem. Laptop computers are not much different than desktop PCs. They both require maintenance to keep them preforming the way they should.
First of all of if this is a recent problem that started after you’ve installed or uninstalled a program. Use your restore feature and go back to a previous state when you know your computer ran good. You will also want to update your antivirus software and run a full scan, the same with your spyware software. Be sure to update the definitions on each program before you run your scans. You want to make sure your computer is free from any viruses or spyware as these will really slow your laptop down.
Unless you have a hardware problem like not enough memory or your hard drive is going bad.The biggest reason for laptops running slow is because of a corrupt registry. Especially if you are running Windows Vista. You may have found a lot of incompatible programs or software, and had to uninstall them. They leave behind invalid registry keys and orphaned entries. You need to clean these out. Your Windows registry is like a large database, all your software has to reference it when it loads to check for the correct settings. The same as when your computer starts up or shuts down. Your registry is a heart of your system. Any corrupt or damaged, registry entries will really slow down your operations.
Cleaning and maintaining your Windows registry is very important. It’s sort of like giving your computer a tuneup. Windows does not have a tool built in for you to do this with. So you’ll need to download a third-party software program for registry repair and cleaning.
You can edit and repair your registry manually, but it’s not recommended. Even experienced computer technicians have a hard time doing this. They all use software. Besides a few delete or alter the wrong file your computer may become unusable. Software that is made for registry repair is much safer and efficient. With a click of your mouse you can scan your entire computer in a couple of minutes. You can also make a backup and restore point before you make any changes just to be safe.
Depending on how much you use your laptop. You should preform weekly registry maintenance, of course, this applies to any other computer you own to. If you follow the tips above your laptop should not be running slow anymore. The only other thing I can think of is if you upgraded your operating system to a newer version of Windows like Vista you may not have enough memory now. Memory upgrades have really come down in price lately, and are fairly easy to replace in a laptop.
Hi Mimi, If you haven't checked to make sure your computer is free of malware, sometimes it can slow down your internet downloads. Here are a few programs I'd suggest you install and run:
ESET Online Scanner (scans from the web, will take a while)
SuperAntiSpyware (download and install)
Malwarebytes (download and install)
ESET will scan your computer this one time, and may take an hour or more. SAS and MWB will reside on your computer and can be run every couple weeks. Make sure you always run the updates before you scan with them.There are always a lot of things that can effect your Internet download speed. Malware infection is just one of the common things that effects Internet Speed. Let us know a little more, like... did your connection recently slow down (used to be lot faster)? slow, but generally two factors: hardware part & system part. For
hardware part: I guess it's OK if your Mac is not that old. For system
part: there might be a lot of junk files, caches, registry errors... out
there which largely slow down any Mac machines. about 80% slow Mac
caused by this reason, if so, try cleaning the system. Learn more from:
Sounds like you have too many programs running at once, try to shut down programs that you are not using, this will open up more memory because video and music takes a lot of your 3mg memory. If it still does not work you will have to upgrade to higher memory. You must have 3GB memory, 3MB memory sound too small.
