Question about PC Desktops

0x80070571 Unreadable / corrupt file error message comes up lately when ever i try to move or edit a folder on my Maxtor external Hard Drive. After several attempts to do a disc check, it finally accepts my prompt for a check, takes like 5 hrs to complete it, then says my drive is repaired and ok. Within 2 hrs, all of a sudden i get the same error message again about corrupt files. Somehow i believe it's not a coincidence that my computer did a microsoft automatic update, and since then it hasnt been right. Please help. I got 350 gigs of music on there and i lose folders everytime this happens

Yes, I've just purchased a new PC because my old one bit the dust...I can't copy to the drive, but I can copy files from it. I last accessed the drive about a month ago. All these posts seem fairly recent, perhaps its an update issue.

This is a program provided by seagate for to check your hdd. This program has other options and has a friendly user interface that may help you find a solution to your problem.
simply install and run this tool and your drive will be properly repaired, as this error code is typicall for data corruption.

Take the time to run the complete test.....Good Luck!!

I experienced a similar problem. Although I had no limits set I continually got this message when attempting to add additional music fies to my folder. After some time I realized that the problem occurred because I was exceeding 130
G byte in that folder.splitting the folder in half ie Music 1 and Music 2 solved the problem.

How do i down load from an external hard drive

Clic on the file , go to "edit" in the toolbar and select " copy to folder " or " move to folder " .
In Windows Vista or W 7 , if you can't find "edit " , clic on " organize " \ layout " and check
" menu bar " .
Here is another fix :
download and install " copyto moveto " from
Now you can right clic on the file you want to move or copy and find " copy to folder " or move to folder " in the opened panel .

Error message that says boot disc error. there is

This is either a corrupt file system or a bad hard drive. You'll need to boot from a Rescue CD like BartPE or a Windows CD and run chkdsk on the drive to see if the file system has just become corrupt. If that fails, you may need to run "fixboot" and "fixmbr" from the recovery console. If those fail, or if chkdsk comes back and says it can't repair the damage, then you probably need a new hard drive.

Hi I have an external hard drive which for some reason is no longer showing up on my pc It doesnt show in device manager either. Actually they are 3 external MAXTOR hard drives that have the same...

Try deleting upper and lower filters in regedit (Registry Editor). See if this helps.

Also make sure that other USB devices can be read on your system.

Double check BIOS settings as well and try to reload default settings. (Make sure USB is on)

Is there a patch for this ?

That error means the media you're trying to burn to is corrupt.
Try using a different empty disc.
If that still doesn't work, it may be that you drive needs cleaning.
If that does not solve the problem, it might be that you need a new CD/DVD drive.

I have a maxtor external hard drive on drive f,I have moved my home movies onto this drivefrom my documents,if I then try to delete these from my documents it also removes them from my f drive to,the idea...

Now, when you "copied" the files how did you do it? Are you sure you didn't create shortcuts, then transfer those to the new hard drive?
If you're not sure, try opening two windows, 1 being your "my documents" folder and the other being the "f" drive. Put them side by side. Now highlight all the files you want to copy (hold down the ctrl key on the keyboard to make multiple selection) and once all the desired files are highlighted, drag them over to the other open folder (f drive). This should make independent duplicates of all the files.
I apologize if i sounded condescending, i'm just unsure of your skill level.

External Hard Drive

some external hard drives comes with software that would enable you to backup entire files/folders with a single click or command. Some with a built in switch that perform the same action.
As for an entire OS, you said you want to "move" the entire system? I guess you can do this using a program like norton ghost, that will create an exact image of your OS and place it to your hard disk.
