Most laptops will flash the charging light when it has detected a problem with the battery. The battery in a laptop will eventually stop holding a charge. Usually this starts out as the fully charged battery not lasting as long as it use to and then eventually it just won't hold any charge at all. Windows may even pop up a notification to tell you there's a problem with the battery.
The most likely problem is the internal connection has come loose in some way. A local computer technician can fix the problem quickly. In the mean time plug the power supply into the laptop and move the connector around until the charging light stays solid. Use some tape or a small object to hold the plug at that position.
Testimonial: "Thanks - we have done this and it will charge up eventually. Just wondered if it could be something easier like a new battery! "
Did you buy the battery brand new and did you charge the newer battery for atleast six hours before using it off the charger? If it is not the new battery you will most likely need a new motherboard.
Testimonial: "the battery was new when bought just over a year ago with the laptop. How long should they last for?"
If you wiggle the connection to the laptop and it feels a bit loose, then the power connection on the laptop itself probably needs re-soldering. This is a common problem with laptops. Unfortunately unless you can do it yourself or know someone you can, then it will cost quite a bit to get fixed outside of warranty.
Testimonial: "thankyou - did wiggle it around and comes and goes so will have a search for someone local to look at. "
