How can I reprogram the copier so it is not looking for the sorter. It keeps telling me to remove the paper in the tray that doesnt exist. I'm in REDONDO BEACH CA 90266 and I could use the help of a tech for a reasonable fee.

This is the sorter/finisher error therefore, it is related to the stacker. So remove and disconnect the sorter or ask the technician to look and check the main motor for the sorter if okey, then the stack sensors for the sorter must be checked if in position and comes ON withing specified time..
not a Canon Copier Tec but I know E04's on Canons generally means
heat/fuser error - ie fuser, usally fuser lamp, thermister or thermal
fuse. Have fuser replaced.
Have it looked at, due to it requiring electrical knowledge, ie test
heater lamp(open), thermal fuse(open), thermister(check for toner built
up on face) with the user removed from printer (fuser=hot bit that paper
goes threw, just before where paper exits to go to sorter) or just
There maybe a reset required, on some canon models after problem has been fixed.
If you can remove the top cover from the sorter, you will see what holds the sorter to the copier. There are two brackets with 1 screw each. The screws are vertical into brackets. After removing both screws, each bracket will pivot away from the copier to free the sorter. Hiope this helps. PS. 1 bracket towards front, 1 bracket towards rear.
You have an issue with your staple finisher, probably need to inspect the stapler unit itself to make sure nothing is jammed in it and it moves freely. If you can't clear the error then most likely the unit is defective.
The error code has to do with you soret/finisher. Are the bins moving smoothly up & down? If not you may have a broken bin, also did you just have a paper jam and may be did not remover all of them? Also, did you check for a jamed staple? You can try this it may work..... Turn the copier Off and unplug the sorter and turn it back On. It may clear the code. When the copier comes to Ready turn it Off and reinstall the sorter back it to the copier and turn it back On. If it dose not work you may need a repair tech out to solve it
Check your stapler. If you removed a jam from the sorter you may have accidentally moved the stapler so it is not sitting at a 45 degree angle when you open the front door of the sorter. There's a little lever you can push to swivel the stapler, however don't try to force it. You may have to pry up the plastic lock that is under the stapler with a small screwdriver. Sometimes the stapler assy has to partially removed (slid to the front) of the sorter to be able to see what you're doing.
The E510 is a sorter feed moter problem moter (M1) You can see if the sorter moter turnes if it does not, replace it
If you want a quick cure to get you copying disconnect the sorter remove the communications lead you have to remove the sorter completely and the copier will work.
