Question about Universal Remote Control Hampton Bay Universal Ceiling Fan/TV/DVD/Satellite Remote Control

1 Answer

Hampton Bay w/ remote and will not reverse.

Just bought this 68" Altura # 904 384 fan from Home depot. It only runs in reverse. The remote will change the speed but when I try to reverse, it turns off and then comes back on in same direction. The fan has a (switch box) in place of a light kit. Could this be the problem? If so, whom may I call to get an other one? Help!

I bought 3 of these fans for my house and I finally got 1 to reverse then I set up the second one without incident and the 3 rd had the same problem. The second fan had a problem with the motor getting hot so back it went.

We just installed the Altura 68" fan. We too are experiencing issues with speed and no reverse. I'm interested in knowing how you got 1 fan to work. Was it wiring or did it just work.

I REALLY like the looks and size of this fan and DO NOT want to return it. If we can't get this resolved we will have to return it though.

the reverse function was working until this weekend. Now all we hear is a click as it tries to reverse but it continues on in the same direction. Our speed and light control work OK.

To eliminate this problem and any humming noise, remove any wall switch that turns off and on the fan, just remove the switch from the line and use the remote to operate the fan.

I recently had Hampton Bay fans installed with the Hunter remote and the electrician showed me that there is a small switch on the fan and you turn it either up or down depending on whether it's hotter months or cooler months because it changes the direction of the airflow to cool down a space or help spread heat. That may be what your issue is-- it's probably set to help spread heat rather than cool things down. I hope this helps!

Hello. What you will find is that there is a battery in the ceiling box [where the wires are connected] as well as in the remote control. My bet is that the battery in the ceiling box also needs to be changed. Hampton Bay products all come from the home depot. Go there if you need instructions, they should provide them to you.

HOW TO CHANGE DIRECTIONS OF BLADES ON HAMPTON BAY MODEL #70226

There is a switch on the side of the fan motor housing. Slide it the opposite way to reverse it. Make sure you wait until the fan comes to a complete stop to do so. Never reverse it while it is running, you could overload the motor and ruin it.

I believe they don't put the reversing switch on any remotes for that very reason.

Remote control for the fan

So you have Hampton Bay fans and universal remotes? If so, then either the remotes are not programmed correctly or the receivers are not wired for the remotes. That is one bad thing about using universal remotes.

I suggest you go to Home Depot and buy one Hampton Bay remote, bring it home, turn of the breaker to the fans, and get on a ladder to get to the receiver. Check the dip switches, and program the switches on the remote exactly the same way.

(While you're at it, make sure the universals dip switches are set exactly the same.)

It should work properly after that.
