Elna Primula 410 Bobbin Winding Question

Inherited my mother-in-law's old Elna 410 sewing machine, without a manual. Nice machine, sews like a dream, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to make it wind the thread on the bobbin. On my newer Brother machine, simply sliding the bobbin knob to the right so it is near the stopping peg is all it takes to put the machine in bobbin-winding mode, but on the Elna this apparently doesn't do it. I have tried everything I can think of, but I can't make it go into winding mode. Help!

Wind the Bobbin
For the usual jobs, it is the best to use a medium sized thread.
2. Disengage the flywheel by unscrewing the coupling knob as far as it will go.

3. Place the bobbin on the bobbin winder, and push the bobbin winder to the right.

4. Pull out one of the spool pins and place the spool of thread on it.

5. Pass the thread through the bobbin winder tension discs, as indicated.

6. Wind the end of the thread around the bobbin by hand, in the direction indicated.

7. Wind the bobbin, at a medium speed by pressing lightly with a finger on the spool so as to stretch the thread better and thus fill the bobbin to a maximum. The full bobbin stops automatically.

8. Re-engage the flywheel by tightening the coupling knob.

9. Cut the thread and remove the bobbin from the bobbin winder by pushing the latter to the left.

Unscrew the inner blue dial in the handwheel counter-clockwise until it stops. Thread through bobbin whole 1 inch. Donor spool on normal peg, thread around guide pulley on left side. Pop your bobbin on the top right peg, turn it until it fits the bobbin notch, and push it into the stabaliser. Push foot pedal.

Once you're full remember to tighten the inner blue handwheel dial clock-wise until it's tight.

    Easy!

Just fixed my moms. Take the top cover off, remove the arm, careful of the tension spring. clean the shaft hub. spin till you free it up then use a extra light oil and reassemble. Works great!

I can not get the bobbin thread to catch, what should i do, elna primula 410

try a new needle--one for the fabric being sewed

rethread the machine--top and bobbin

make sure the bobbin is correctly inserted and turned the right way

also could be a timing problem, the machine may need to be checked

I inherited my mother's Elna Lotus SP sewing machine. She had the sewing guide inside the machine, but not the instruction manual. I need to know how about the bobbin and how to thread?

Hi Jeanne, you might want to check out my tip on early Swiss Elnas,

http://www.fixya.com/support/r10602655-acquired_early_swiss_elna_sewing

it should help you get the Lotus going. Lovely machine. If you are in the USA you may also want to contact White Sewing Center as he may have this manual available for sale or a copy of it. www.whitesewingcenter.com.

Remember to use the Elna 7 hole dished metal bobbins, there are 7 holes on the top, and looks like this11_7_2011_6_23_57_am.jpg

Always wind it and insert it into the machine this way. Don't use any other bobbin. Standard needles 130/705H, flat shank to the back.

Check out my other tip on bobbin winding too, it is important to keep tension onto the thread spool that you are winding thread off as the machine doesn't tension the thread for you. So you need to apply pressure to the top of the thread spool as you wind off, use the curved handle of your scissors on the top of the spool.

Feel free to connect to me and ask if you have any other questions, I have a Lotus TSP at home and its almost identical to the SP. Happy stitching.

It seems that the bobbin winder sensor needs adjusting and is best done by a service technician with the appropriate service manual to ensure correct parameters are achieved..........to locate your nearest Elna dealer, try ElnaUSA .....here

Elna threading and reverse instructions

Hi
I have a Primula 310

The reverse is located in the middle of the stitch length dial, you press in the button whilst you reverse.

When threading up any sewing machine make sure the foot is 'up' as this opens the tension disks and the thread goes between. when you lower the foot the discs close around the thread and add the tension.

Hope this helps
