Ongoing problem

By Horner - usenet poster

I've had an on-going problem with my Geforce 2 mx 64.

The display is fine and runs well all except the bottom quarter of the
screen which is blurry, but only at 640x480 or 800x600, 1024x768 is fine
(the res I run windows in) but games like Vice City etc that run in 640x480
have a blurry bottom quarter.

It is annoying although I did manage to sort the problem using some older
drivers (I can't remember which drivers and have been unable to reproduce
the effect) obviously I want the advantages of using the latest drivers
though.  It does seem strange that it only affects the bottom quarter of the
screen..

When taking a screen grab of 640x480 it appears fine in 1024x768.  Could
this be a monitor problem?  I didn't have any trouble with my banshee when I
had it with the same monitor (a taxan 975 tco99).

Any ideas??  My blurry radar is doing my head in!!!

mumble.. top posters.. mumble

So what would this be then?  A permanent hardware thing or a driver problem?
Remember I did manage to sort this problem out using one specific set of
drivers, but I can't remember which set of drivers it was...

I agree, sounds like a monitor problem.  I had something similar with an
Envision 17in monitor.  The upper-left 1/3 of the screen was blurry at
resolutions over 800X600, but fine at 640X480 and so-so at 800X600.  Since
this was a test monitor for bench work it was no big deal - until the
monitor finally expired.

Sounds like a monitor problem.  When video cards go bad you see artifacts
and sparklies and if it's REAL bad you see nothing and the computer won't
start.
