Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

Vista Operating System - Forgotten Password

My son bought a used laptop. The guy he bought it from cleaned it up so that it didn't have any of his personal information, but goofed up some driver/file for the CD drive. I called Toshiba and they walked me thru a restore. Now when the computer starts it wants the former owners password. I've tried starting in safe mode and that doesn't work for VISTA. I've gone into the setup utility - security and there are only two options listed: Set User Password and Set Supervisor Password. I don't know which one to use or if I need to use either one. Can somebody help?

Which Password? Bios Password?Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista?Windows 7?OK,if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've gotto have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops withwindows 7 fail to do. It should be one of the first things you do whenyou buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced with reinstalling theOperating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator(hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once thedesktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the iconsbigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

I hv forgotten my security code

Hi,

This is only possible is you are using Windows XP. If your operating system is windows Xp, follow the steps below:

  1. Turn on your laptop and allow it get to the stage where is will ask for user/log password
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del your keyboard.
  3. A user name and password prompt will pop up.
  4. On the user name type in "administrator
  5. On the password, type in "administrator"
  6. and you windows will open, go to control panel from there to change the password.
That's all. In other words, the user name and password is administrator.

But in the case of windows Vista, you will have to re-run windows operating system, because vista security is very tight and its difficult to break into its password.

Take care.

My son bought a lap top off craigs list and it is locked with a password, we can not access anything. Do you have any suggestions on what to do ? We do not have any manuals or anything.

HI There,

You have 2 options.

1. On your computer, download Hiren's Boot CD 11.0 (free) from this link and then burn it to a CD. Turn on the laptop and insert the cd and then turn it off. Power the laptop back on and the laptop should boot straight from the CD. It it's menu you will find a utilty to wipe out any password on the laptop you choose.

2. Get an Operating System disk that the laptop can handle (XP, Vista, W7), boot from that disk and wipe the laptop clean and install an entire new windows system.

Regards,

Marcus

I have no money or cards to pay no one will help my son has put a password on my laptop i cant get it off and i need it off asap

If it's at bootup:

You need to temporarily remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard to reset the BIOS password.

If it's at Windows login:

Forgot password to toshiba with vista operating system

Is it the windows password? Or did he set the bios password for booting up? If it is just the logon for windows, then the F2 setup won't be able to touch it. You can go here to fix the windows password:
