I have a samsung tv and toshiba dvd player which is playing in only black and white. Using scart leads. The dvd player was ok on my previous tv. Any ideas. Thank you.

I expect your DVD player produces CVBS video, (composite video) and your TV is set up for S-Video. Check the menu and set them both the same. Hope that helps.

If the TV has the red, white and yellow sockets on it you can use an adapter. It's a scart plug on one end (for the DVD player) and 3 little round sockets on the other, usually red, white and yellow, sometimes red, black and yellow, like this:Amazon. Then you need an audio/video lead with red, white and yellow plugs on both ends like this:Amazon
look on the back of the television and the DVD player, there should be a SCART socket and/or red, white and yellow AV sockets, either use a SCART lead and connect it to the SCART on the DVD player and the TV.Or use an AV lead with 3 auxiliary shape connectors and match the colour of each connector with the female sockets on both the TV and the DVD player instead of using the other component connections.
Is the TV PAL or NTSC? The symptom you are experiencing is what would happen if you are trying to play back a NTSC signal on a PAL TV or vica versa. If you have a scart connection on theTV then use a scart lead to connect from the DVD player to the TV. Set the DVD player for RGB output which is independent of PAL & NTSC.
Check the scart cable , try connecting it to another scart socket on the tv. I would even change the scart lead to make sure its ok. I have had loads of similar problems like that caused by scart leads faulty or connected to the wrong socket. pete.
have you tried swapping the scart lead socket on the back of the dvd vcr i had this problem and i found out i was using the wrong scart socket make sure you are using the t v scart and not the
decoder one

If the new player you hooked up is causing the spit screen then you have to go into the set up menu in the DVD player and take it out of prograssive scan.. Its in the wrong fornmat for your TV set. good Luck
