Question about Yamaha RX-V661 Receiver

1 Answer

Yamaha RX-V663 Multi-zone question.

I just bought a Yamaha V663. I have two sets of speakers on the receiver. One set is inside and one is outside. I purchased this receiver for the 2 zones as I need to have separate volume control. Without this feature, I need to have the music very loud inside to get it loud enough outside. I am unable to figure out how to set this. I was told this would be all I need. The directions in the book indicate I need: 1)an infrared sigal receiver in the second zone. 2) An infrared signal emitter in the main zone. 3) An amplifier and speakers in the second zone.

Please advise. Very frustrated and feeling like I spent a lot of money for no apparent reason.

I just got the same receiver like few days ago im still leaning it too,it is a very nice receiver though. here is some settings to help you.
check this to make sure zone 2 is showing in the menu,
on remote
menu, basic setup, speaker set, extra should show zone 2 it might show zone b...presence...or none needs set on zone 2 hit the left a-e/cat button it is weird the right doesnt circle all around? i had to call crutchfield tech for that one(GREAT COMPANY!)so that is for the setting to make sure zone 2 is set up now some to adjust the volume.
menu, manual, options, zone 2 set. here you can set 2 features
max volume( the loudest it will play) inti vol(the volume that it will play at when it is turned on) the yamaha has alot of quirks to it but has a very nice sound. for second zone features and a easier receiver to set up i have onkyo and they are very easy to set up zone 2 olume and everything on the front panel. hope you dont have to try to program a universal remote to work it seems yamaha uses discrete codes that are impossible to find i tried one universal and can only get very basic features to work.
hope this helps you out,
jeff

I know this is an older post but anyone else coming across it (who also has an iPhone) may find this useful...

I just got in an L5 remote (infrared for iPhone/iPad and was amazed and thrilled that I could program it to do a one-button control for turning on/off Zone 2, controlling volume and input selection. Trying to explain how to control Zone 2 to anyone else was pretty much impossible before this.

I cant get zone 2 to work on my yamaha rx v673. They are 2 outdoor speakers.. please help

I had a similar problem where I could not increase zone 2 volume - Page 100 in the manual notes that 'power amp assign' must be set to "7 Ch + 1 zone" before zone 2 max volume can be changed. Try that.

Yamaha rx-v663 is there a firmware update to get hdmi 1.4a support ?

Unfortunatly there is not any firmware to upgrade your unit to a higher HDMI format. There is a firmware though that corrects the following symptoms.

1. In case of playback of some DTS-HD Master Audio stream, pop noise may be generated.
2. Test tone may not be output under specific YPAO condition.
3. When test tone is output from presence channel, surround R channel is simultaneously output when speaker settings are PRESENCE SP "EXIST" and SWFR "NONE".
4. Multi channel input setting will be reset after power off the unit, in case of setting "INPUT CH" to "8CH" and "FRONT" to "VCR" or "V-AUX".

I have a Yamaha RX V665 and I am unable to change the volume

The volume keys should be working by default, but you may have volume punch through turned on (meaning the remote is sending signals for TV or CABLE volume function no matter what mode you are actually on). To unlock volume control for AUX mode, do the following:
1. Press and release AUX
2. Press and hold SETUP until the remote blinks twice
3. Type 993
4. Press and release VOL-
The remote should blink four times to confirm unlock.

RX-V665 Yamaha reciever has been working great. Use it for surround sound and outside, zone two speakers. Recently started turning off during movies. I run blu-ray through receiver. When playing Star Wars...

You may find a solution by doing some of the things I have tried - see below

I recently puchased this model to replace an older Yamaha system that also had this shut-off problem. The new RX665 system has the same problem but I check the impedance setting using the instruction in the manaul anyway. The problem persists. I have check all speaker wire to make sure nothing was touching. I did find one wire touching on the center speaker but the problem persist.

Since the problem followed me when I moved and with a new amp, I am beginning to think I am have a speaker that's causing this - maybe the sub.

Yamaha receiver RX-V663

Make sure you have an analog RCA audio cable from the source to the receiver. Digital coaxial or optical will not work for zone 2 or zone 3. By adding an analog cable it will not affect your main zone, it will always go to digital first. Hope this helps

B speaker setup problem

Why don't you set it Zone 2 then you could listen to the radio outside and still watch tv inside. You can turn it on and off just like a and b speakers.

On zone 2 of my yamaha rx v663 receiver it says fixed when I try to adjust the vlume and won't let me cut it up or down.

Check the setup menu of the receiver on zone 2 settings most likely the error is a fixed volume setting for this zone. If not found, reset factory settings and try to setup everything again. If the problems persists, contact your vendor if still under warranty.

I am onlty showing two channel speakers

Hello..if you have the manual for setting up you need to go to page 32 and use the auto set up to check out the system ..in this area it will test the speakers and even adjust the equalizer with the supplied osd microphone.. it will give various audio signals to all the speakers and even warn if a speaker is out of phase. After that test follow up carefully the other pages under speaker assignments. I hope that helps .
