My 2003 VW Jetta air conditioning is cooling for a few minutes and sometimes longer and then it stops cooling. The fan continues to run but the compressor apparently stops running.

Have you watched the compressor in action? The compressor is driven by the fanbelt which turns a pulley on the compressor shaft, but there's an electric clutch that disengages the pulley from the friction plate attached to the compressor shaft. You should hear a click when the clutch engages and disengages. Do you hear that? Can you see the friction plate turning with the pulley or does it stay in one position while the pulley turns? If if works for a bit then stops turning, you may have a damaged friction plate such that it doesn't engage with the pulley. Take your car to an auto A/C specialist and let them examine it. It's also possible that the relay that sends 12 volts to the clutch is intermittent and needs to be replaced.

Ac runs on generator but not when plugged into the pole

sounds like its not getting power to a/c when plugged in. the clicking you hear is the 12 volts dc pulling in relay.

Bad run capacitor or bad compressor. If you hear an occasional click from the compressor try a new run cap and then a hard start kit. Otherwise it's more economical to purchase a new unit.

How would I fix this CLICKING sound?

You have a bad fan relay. You need to get it changed. Is this fan board. If so the intire board has to be changed. Safe side get a service tech to check it out ask for free estimate up front. Russ

A/c compressor runs, no fan

did you ohm the relays to verify a correct path? It sounds like the relay contacts are not "making" and providing a pth for flow.

Rheem A/C unit makes a clicking sound when

Shut down the unit and turn the power off. Take the cover off of the blower housing and feel around within the squirrel cage. It sounds like something may have been drawn up into the blower. Also it is possible that the blower wheel might have thrown a balance weight and caused the wheel to become unbalanced. It could also be the motor about to go out but since I can't hear it myself, I'm trying to cover all the bases.

Ruud heat pump makes a clicking sound

Many thermostats have a setting to keep the fan running instead of cycling with the compressor. Check its settings.

Temperature display and "Cool" light flicker and click

It has an electrical problem, first. You (and I) won't know about needing freon until the compressor is running.
