Canon A640 thinks media card is lock

Hi guys, My camera thinks the media card is locked when it isn't. In fact I've never locked it. I've tried reformating it in my husband's A570 (and I can use it in his camera) but mine still thinks it's locked.
How do I fix this problem?
Thanks, Jean Mazur

Thanks. I looked at it but don't feel confident doing anything in such a narrow space. Since it's still under warranty, I will send it in.

Inside your camera there is a detector that senses that your card is locked or not it sounds like yours is stuck in, you may be able to free it get yourself a flash light and look inside the socket on the side where the slide is on the memory card use a very small tool or paper clip you have to be really careful when doing this you could break the sensor if your to rough on it.Good luck

Canon PowerShot A640 Digital Cameras. I can't turn on a Canon A640

Question edited for clarity. You think 'buyed' is the correct word in there :>D

Question moved from Canon Computers.

If it was rusty, it may have fallen in water, and voltage from the battery damaged components on the main board.

The memory card is its locked

SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

How do I download pictures from my powershot a640 to my computer?

Please see the following blog article, as it describes the use of a card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

Little sliding switch on the side of the SD memory card. Remove from camera, slide switch away from lock position, re-install and you should be good to go.
