Hi, i have a canon ip 3000 also and i am receiving the same error msg "waste absorber is full".
i received assistance from my brother, whom is a printer, and he said we have to replace or clean the two pads which clean the ink heads.
i did take the printer cover off and am going to clean the pads.
and this should fix the problem.
email me for any questions.

Tip

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

Printer says the waste ink absorber is almost full. Is there anything I can do or do I need a new printer?

Dear sir... Dont worry about this issue.you need not to buy a new printer.Actually every inkjet printers has the waste ink absorber like cotton.it will absorb the waste inks after your printing... you just need to open and take that cotton cloth, then clean it by water.then replace it again.thats all.... All the best...

Tank absorber full and lights blinking

The POWER Lamp Flashes Orange Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.

Note
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.

Waste Ink Tank absorber full, Need new absorber tank.

On Canon machines it's not a tank, it's an absorbent pad that covers the entire bottom of the printer case. You need a shop to replace it and reset the counter.

The Waste Ink absorber is almost full, where is the waste ink absorber???? How do you clean it?? I have a Canon iP1600 USB 002

Not sure on a Canon, but you can buy a replacement pad. I would buy a Waste Ink Container which sits outside the printer. When it's full you pour down the sink. The waste ink is not usable. You can check the link below is there's one for your printer. While there check if they have a CISS for your printer, it will save you Tons of money.
