If the screen on the calculator is cracked and mostly black looking , is there a way to fix that or is it easier to just purchase a new one?

Not exactly knowing what kind of Texas Instrument calculator you possess, I would recommend that you purchase a brand new one unless you can find a broken one of the same kind and use it as a test to disassemble and check the glass.

Lines running through screen; hard to read anything; we have reset and turn off and on and even replaced batteries. Calculator is only 2 years old.

If you have lines running through the screen that don't move regardless of what is being done on the calculator, then the screen is most likely broken. This can happen from an external shock like dropping it, or sitting on it. It can also be caused by the calculator being bent.

Sorry for the bad news.

My TI 86 is 6 years old and I have taken careof it well.

Try pressing (lightly) on the bottom border below the screen. If there is no change, try the top. If there is still no change, the power for your LCD may have become disconnected or shorted. There are external displays for these calculators intended for overhead projectors. If your school has one, you could try hooking it up to make sure the calculator itself still works.

In either case, it would be better to purchase a new calculator.

Good Luck!

Broken screen

Your best option is to contact Texas Instruments. They should be able to answer your questions. Their E-mail address is ti-care@ti.com

By the way, your LCD is broken and the liquid crystal is oozing.

Replace cracked LCD screen on HP 50g

It doesn't look good for being able to purchase the display as a part. I checked HP and the unit is not listed. I saw a 49G but no repair parts listed. you can research with HP at:

Hope this helps

On the screen appears <<>> instead of numbers that i type

try resetting it... Will probably rid you of your problem.

2nd>Mem(+ sign)>reset> right 2c(ALL at top should be highlighted)>yes

You will need to reload all your programs, and while your at it you should probably update the OS from the TI site...

Good Luck
