I have exactly the same problem with mine after approx one year of service. Just started about a month ago. KDS says it is a power supply problem and must be returned to them to fix for approx $70USD.

This is a common problem across many monitors, unfortunately. The problem stems from one of two things, typically.

It is either the Power Inverter board (Inverter Mirage Electronics AD-1700 Rev:F 200-000-170DTL1 VERSION:A) or a weak or dying backlight.

If your monitor comes on for 2 seconds then you can test the backlight by using the controls to get into the backlight brightnes settings on the OSD and turning it WAY down.

If that dosen't work then it is likely bad capacitors on the Power board mentioned above. If you feel adventurous and know how to solder then you might be able to fix this yourself. You need to be careful however because you are dealing with high votage in there and capacitors CAN hold a charge long after you have unpluged the unit. You can read more about this power board as well as how to replace the bad caps HERE.

If that's not for you then I would recomend taking it to a local TV shop for them to fix. The parts shouldn't be more than $20, but labor can be expensive.

I have the sameproblem soI plugged in a HP 1702 after 2 days it started doing the same thing. I am using an old school kds with no problems.

Could it be a bug in the system with flat screens.

My LG monitor blacks out intermittently when warm, I have tried it on another computer so it is a fault with the monitor. It blacks out every few seconds, sometimes it takes longer. It is 2 years old.

after blackout, check the screen as that. look in to the monitor in side angel,
and if you can see darken live image in that and its working. in that condition, your
LCD panel is working and the problem is no light.
in that case you need to repleace or repair the " inverter unit " in that monitor.
that unit makes the high voltage for back light.

after blackout , you cant see any darken image like as that, and or totally power
goes off , that is different problem. for solve that need advance trouble shooting
and can be need advance repair.

My kds k-92mdwb monitor goes black after a few seconds. How can I fix this?

brendadeese, You might be able to repair it. Well your husband or boyfriend maybe. If good with a soldering iron, solder-wick, solder, and $5-$12 in new filter capacitors. You should have visited YOUTUBE for video clips of "LCD monitor disassembly"and "LCD monitor repair" to see just what is involved with making BLACK SCREEN of DEATH go away. Most LCD monitors (98%) use same basic backlighting technology. Here are some repair options for you to ponder over! A. If KDS has a swapout program for BSoD units try it first! B. Contract out the REFURBISHMENT work to reputable local firm that knows exactly what is needed to do the work properly. C. Trade in for new unit. But remember that the tech in the back of the store is going to repair your unit with a little luck and have a nice monitor to give to his kids on Christmas, and won"t need to do it again till Christmas 2011 or 12. I would also recomend a visit to www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm to learn what may be the cause of your BSoD. FYI If K92MDWb had a crisp, bright, colorful image just prior to BSoD, try doing the flashlight test so you will know if the units "switch-mode-power-supply" is in "full" or "partial" shutdown mode. 12fixlouie If this was of some help, please rate on fixya.

I have a older kds lcd monitor that goes black less than 1 min after turning on, the power light stays on, the monitor will come back on if you repower the monitor then goes back off in 3 or 4 seconds. Is...

if you look closely can you see a very dark image on the screen? your problem is usually the result of the backlight on its way out, these are very hard to replace so you will need to take it to a profesional, in most cases it is cheeper to buy a new screen.

Starlogic 20 inch widescreen monitor screen keeps going black

This is probably a back light problem. Take a bright flashlight and while the monitor is on, point it at the LCD and try different angles, etc. If you can see an image, it is the back light, probably the back light voltage converter unit in the lcd. It could also be the back light bulbs.

If you don't see an image with the flash light, then it could be the main logic board.

Kds model 780 monitor no signal, power button does not work

My monitor does the same thing at times and sometimes shows "No Signal" and at other times the screen will maintain the images but the backgound color switches to mustard yellow. In each of these cases I have been able to solve the problem by unplugging the power cord from the electical outlet for about three seconds and plugging it back in. I have a KDS model 780 LCD.
GOOD LUCK

Image appears for 2-3 seconds then screen goes black

The following steps are how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,
Tan

MONITER LIGHT IS GREEN BUT ONLY SHOWS A NORMAL SCREEN FOR 1/2 SECOND THEN TURNS BLACK

HI. I had the same problem with mine. It would flash the screen on for a split second and then turn black, the whole time the power light remained green. Upon opening up the case, I pulled the combo power supply board/inverter board out for inspection. I noticed one of the capacitors had a bulge on top indicating it was bad. It was the the 680uf 25v capacitor. I desoldered it, and soldered in the new one. After hooking everything back up, bingo!! Monitor now works perfectly. I couldn't find an exact match to the capacitance locally, but I had a 1000uf 35v cap in my utility box. It worked fine as a replacement. You can usually go within 30 percent of tolerance and be alright. Just don't go under on capacitance or voltage. I hope this helps.
