Try going to ps on pc/laptop and doing the update via usb stick! Download 4.30 pop it in a usb stick and create a folder named PS3 then go into that folder and create a new folder named UPDATE.
Then follow the prompts. The website has more info.
When the 3.55 downgrade was released, The 3.41 you downgraded to registers as 3,56 on your PS3. Only way to get out of it is to downgrade to something lower than 3.41 & then update to a original 3.41, or wait until sony release's a update higher than 3,56 and the 3.60 is out so you should be able to get that and be back on track.
I would suggest that you take out your PS3 Hard Drive and reformat it as it seems it is having issues writing the updates to the hard disk.
Also if you are using a wireless connection, it might be sending incomplete packets or no packets at all causing a corrupt update, so if possible plug your PS3 directly into the router.
Try to foramt the hard drive an do a system update again to do it from fresh start. it should fix the problem however all your saved information will be totally deleted.
You are screwed. Hope it's under warranty. They will try fix it & ship you it back, if they can't they will refund the ps3 & you can buy a new one. (ps- dont get the new slim ps3. u can't run linux on it. they took the os option off them) people have sued sony over this update. you aren't the only one. good luck my friend.
download the file from the link below. put it on a USB stick.

Try reseting the ps3 or try to update the firmware version to the latest, the problem may be fixed in an update. If that dosn't help call the sony peoplethey could help in this problem.
