You need to push the hot water button on the machine panel to allow water to run out of the steam wand. After a few seconds the machines ventilate message should clear.
"Ventilate" simply means that there is an air pocket caught in the
system and running water through it can fix the problem. When the
ventilate message appears, you will need to run hot water through your
steam/hot water wand as if you were going to fill your cup with hot
water. If the message does not go away after doing so, you will have to
run hot water through your wand continuously into an empty container
(emptying one full water reservoir if not more). Once your display
screen reads "Select Product, ready for use," you will be ready to brew
delicious coffee again.
i had this problem too once. its also could be because you have put hot water in the water tank....i had a family member do that and thats what it said....run cold water through wand and see what happens...
VENTILATE ERROR at 27,211 brew cycles on 12/31/22. I read that a stuck Flow Meter might be the cause of the error. A Factory Reset was suggested, so I did that and the Ventilate Error cleared, but it returned on the 1st brew cycle. Since the pump works fine and I had nothing to lose, I continued Ventilating and let the water tank empty, so it really needed to Ventilate. Started with 1 liter of the hottest tap water available, I allowed the tank to empty and then Ventilated using 1.5 liters of boiling water. The Flow Meter must have cleared because I was offered Hot Water or Steam. In the end, the machine is working fine. I had to re-program all of the settings because of the Factory Reset, but my machine lives on. 2023 here we come.
It means you have an airlock in the water system. It can occur when you refill the water tank also.
Quite often you can run the hot water nossle untill the airlock clears. You will hear it splatter and then it should be sweet to go.
I fixed my ventilate problem! After 2 days of utter frustration and pushing many buttons, I read another guest comment about resetting to factory settings. Push the up button under the small coffee icon. It should say factory setting with the asterick next to it. Push OK. Then push "yes" for factory settings. Then my machine started working again! Hallelujah! It erased my personal coffee cup setting, but who cares.
Big thanks to the person who posted their solution on Dec. 2007.
