Question about Sony KV-32S20 32" TV

1 Answer

Sony KV-32S20 Tube TV

I purchased the TV in 1996. A couple of days ago I was watching it and the screen just went black like it was off (no lines, static, light etc.). The "Video" lettering does not appear on the screen when you switch it to video mode either. The audio works fine and you can tell by the audio that its changing channels when you change the change channel on the remote. The Standby light continues to flash. Turning it off for a few hours didn't change anything.

I appreciate any solutions/diagnosis you can offer.

you first must verify you have horizontal deflection. do the crt fillaments light up? if they dont you probably have a shorted horiz. output transistor short or a bad solder joint in the drive circuit. i would solder this anyway it is a common issue. it can blow up the power supply if it fails. if they do light up turn up the screen control, the bottom control on the flyback transformer, do you have a flat vertical line? if so you lost vertical deflection. that could also be a bad connection on the ic or it failed.
