Camera not sataying charged

I fully charge the battery, then put it in the camera and it drains the battery even when turned off. It seems like it is still on because the green light around the power button flahes until it kills the battery.

The camera is brand new. So it is in the factory setting and the battery is new. So now what, return the camera?

Since the camera is brand new, return it. This model has a short which causes the light to flash showing an "error" state. Again, if new, return it.

Hey stacytwo,
I would try cleaning the battery contacts first with a cotton swab, and if this doesn't work I would try initializing the camera back to its factory default settings as described on page 53 of your camera manual. If these options don't work I would try purchasing a new battery. I have included a link to a PDF download of your camera manual in case you need it. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

    Hey stacytwo,

I'm sorry you felt my solution was inappropriate, but your posting said nothing about the camera being brand new and my suggestions are what the manufacturer suggests to do for the described issue. If your camera is brand new then I would definitely suggest you return or exchange the camera with the retailer you purchased it from.

    Sincerely,

    Allan

When I go to turn on my camera it makes several beeps and shuts off. I bought a new battery and that didnt seem to fix the issue. I can hit the menu button and it briefly turns to the M/DD/YY screen and...

Make sure that the battery is fully charged and hols a good charge on it . This is very important as the fault relates to a poor charge or poor battery charge retaining. If you have confirmed that the battery does have a good charge present , the check the terminals for any crusting/erosion . If so use a good cleaner to wipe off the crusts and polish the terminals.
Now set the battery and try to put the camera to a manual mode- disabling the flash. If the camera works then the flash unit can be short and is draining the battery. If not the camera has some regulator in the circuit it can be short.

Recently purchased the Sony DSC-W290 and I have

how long do you usually charged the batt? to make charge last slightly longer leave the batt inside the charger for an hour after the charger light goes off. if you have a fully charged batt you should be able to take approx. 300 pics or 2.5hrs approx.batt life. for viewing pics it should give you approx. 6800 pics and approx. 5.5 hrs. of course, number of still images and and batt life may vary depending on the camera settings.so if you're zooming in and out, using the flash, going from camera to play mode, turning cam on and off, using other settings and features of the camera, this will cause the batt to drain much faster.also ambient temperature also affects batt life.if it's very cold, the batt drains a bit faster.also, it's recommended that if you're not using the camera to remove the batt.retaining the camera settings, date & time will cause batt to drain even if your not using it. if did this and still you think it's odd that your batt drains quickly and looses charge even if it's fully charge, it might also indicate that what you might be a defective batt. one way to find out is to try using the same type of batt from a friend or a relative that has one to confirm and further isolate issue.anyway, supplied accessories has the same warranty that applies to your camera.so you may send it out and have it replaced if needed.hope this helps.thanks:)

Battery keeps dying

Most likely the charging circuitry has failed. When you fully charge the new battery what does the battery meter read on the camera? Your two options no matter what the case are repair vs. replacement. If you need further assistance let me know.

Camera won't turn on.

Make sure the battery contacts are clean. The rechargable batteries looses their charge even when they are not in use. It is important to fully charge the first time the rechargable batteries.

The battery has lost it's memory and needs to be shocked back to life.. This solution worked for me:

"Hi,I just found a soultion on another website and it appears to have worked for me.Apparently the battery loses it memory when fully discharged,to fix this take a 9v battery and place the terminals + to + and - to - with the camera battery for 30 seconds or so then put the battery back in the camera and charge as normal.I just did this and it seems to be charging and the red light is solid.hope this helps."
