Question about Apple AirPort Express (M9470Z/A) 802.11g/b (M9470ZA) Wireless Access Point

Apple Airport Express not working

Unfortuntely my wireless network, aka airport express just went on the blink while surfing. I contacted my ISP and nothing wrong their end, and in anycase i have the cable connected directly into my macbook.

The express is flashing amber and I have resetted both hard and factory with no joy. When i go into the airport utility, it seems to be the default settings which might be amiss:

"this apple wireless device has default settings. you should configure your apple wireless device to connect to the internet, secure the wireless network and a provide a password"

So, how do I go about reconfiguring the network, or in layman terms, getting the darn thing working again?

All help greatly appreciated.

I can configure the express to my time capsule and it shows up but the orange light just flashes away. My powerbook connects to the network wirelessly OK but not the express. I just wanted it to extend the network to a bad reception area but it won't even work next to the base station.I did send an earlier express back as it just stopped working but this is out of warranty. I just guess it's a **** product that does not really last very long.

Throw the device out of the window, the apple folks are terrible and liers they mislead us into buying this device and it is not working with most Vistas.

In order for your airport express to work, you have to wait for a green light to appear. I had this problem as well and what I learned was to unplug the airport express for 30 min, reconnect it, and the green light should show after a few minutes of it blinking orange, and you are good to go.

Login to your airport express using Apple's airport utilities (either in it's current configuration or after resetting it).

Using the airport utility do not choose manual setup, just select continue.

Adjust (as required) the airport express station name and password and select continue.

Select "I have a wireless network and I want to add AirPort Express or replace an existing device on my network and select continue.

Select I want Airport Express to wireless join my current network and select continue.

Choose if you want to extent the rance of your network or just join the network and select continue.

Choose the network you wish to join... etc etc etc....

You should be fine.

Using the Airport utility on your macbook (located in your Utilities folder) will tell you what the conflict is.....most likely you have DHCP issue or the network is at the incorrect setting.
The wizard in the utility will tell you what you should fix.

Just installed Airport Express. I can select it from iTunes on my PC running vista. The music plays but songs intermittently stop...it like it can;s download fast enough...suspect the laptop can't send...

Make sure that between the laptop and airport express you don't have devices that can interfere, like microwaves, phones, etc.

Also, if its a newer express try using the 5GHz band and that the airport is set up to "Join the network" not "Extend".

Vista compatibility

Vista has very little drivers for equipment sad but true. However in your case you can use Airport Extream. However here is what an apple tech had to say: If you are a Vista user and you don't have access to a Mac, you will not be able to get this working. Apple hasn't yet stirred itself to release a version of Airport Express Assistant that works with Windows Vista - you can't set it up via Windows' own networking software and nor does the Airport Admin Utility work under Vista. It installs and you can run it, but it returns error messages if you try and connect to the Airport Express. I had to use a Mac to get it working, though once it's set up as a client to your existing wireless network, you can stream from iTunes on a Vista PC to the Airport Express. The documentation is very poor, too, with this: I had to do extensive Googling first to track down the fact that I couldn't set it up with Vista and second to identify the device's IP address and default password. Having said that, it is a breeze to set up via a Mac and works like a dream witih Vista once it's up and running. But don't bother if you have Vista until Apple updates the software. Was this review helpful to you?
