Question about Canon Printers & Copiers

14 Answers

My Canon S600 Bubble Jet Printer ran out of paper. I put in the paper and pressed the orange blinking button to resume printing. However, it won't continue, even though I've cancelled the print job. The orange button keeps flashing even though I have rebooted and done everything I know how. What's the solution?

A printing job was in the works; the paper ran out, so the orange light started blinking. I put in more paper, held the orange button down like always to resume printing, but nothing happened. I've shut the printer off, restarted it, but the orange lights comes on again and continues to blink. I've cancelled the print job in my "control panel", and no printing jobs show up now. However, the orange light continues to blink! What's up?

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

I went to control panel, clicked on Printers & Faxes, right clicked but found only "Use Printer Offline"......not "online" as you suggested. Now what?

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

Well, I downloaded the new drivers for the Canon S600. Still the same problem exists...the orange light is blinking and it won't print.

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

How do I do a test print with the utility print?

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

The computer and printer cable are intact...otherwise the printer lights wouldn't be working. Is that correct?

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

I unplugged the printer from the computer, turned the button off and on several times. Nothing helped. Then, I removed and snapped back in the ink cartridges. Still the printer light is blinking orange. Any other ideas?

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

Where do I find the "utility printer"?

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

I'm getting frustrated with this problem...all your suggestions have not worked!

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

The orange light is flashing continuously...nothing is working!

  • Liebsch Jul 28, 2008

Yep, I've re-plugged both ends of the cable -- into the computer and into the printer. Still, the orange lights keeps blinking.

  • Liebsch Jul 29, 2008

Since you haven't helped me solve the blinking problem, I'm taking the printer to a repair shop for analysis. I'm disappointed with the recommended solutions that didn't work!

  • Liebsch Jul 29, 2008

I don't use "refills" for my ink cartridges; I've had little or no luck with them. I buy new ones...Canon brand...so I doubt that my ink cartridges would be dry, since I use them on a regular basis. Any other ideas?

  • Liebsch Jul 30, 2008

I've tried that too. Still no luck. I took it back to Best Buy, but it would cost for S&H to Chicago, plus any labor/repair. Now, I hope you don't charge me too for the $9.90 on my credit card. I didn't get any solutions from you!!

Dear Sir/Madam,

It means a paper jam... make sure there is no paper anywhere in the printer, then disconnect power for 30 seconds. Turn it back on and watch to see if it tries to feed paper. If not you have a broken paper sensor. Also check the cartridge any mismatch?

Notes - BJ Cartridge Mismatch
This error can be caused by installing the BJ Cartridges (Printheads) in the wrong position in the printer. The Correct combination are as follows
Left Holder Right Holder BC-30 BC-31 BC-32 BC-31 Insure the Cartridge lock levers are down. Reinstall both Cartridges.

Also doing the Waste Error Reset.

1: Power off printer
2: Hold Resume button then press and hold POWER, the beeper will sound once.
3: Hold POWER and release RESUME
4: Press RESUME twice
5. Release Power button
6: When the indicator lights steady, press RESUME three(3) times. The indicator should be orange.
7: Press Power to set data

If it not a piece of tape and there are still flashing lights it could be that the nozzles are blocked or the wick has dried out.

You can do a manual cleaning using some kitchen paper and a little solvent and a small plastic bag.

The first thing we need to do is get the head away from its parking position. Switch on the machine and when the head has moved away from its park position, remove the power lead.

With the top of the machine open, you should be able to move the print head carriage by hand.

Look to the right where the head carriage is normally parked and you should see the pump cap area. It will be a black looking spongy pad covered in ink.

Now take a piece of kitchen paper and fold it over a couple times to make a pad approx 3"x1". Now lay this pad over the top of the pump cap and fold the left edge down toward the base of the machine as in image one (the tissue is the yellow bit in the image)

Now take a syringe or similar and put some solvent into it. The solvent I use is JR Ink Jet Cartridge flush as seen on ebay and the like. If you have any ammoniated window cleaner like Windex you can use this. Put the solvent onto the tissue making it quite damp, but not totally soaked.

Manually move the print head GENTLY back to its park position. The pump cap will try to raise up to meet the bottom of the print head as you move it back. Be careful no to force it or you may break something.

What we are trying to do is bring the solvent dampened pad into contact with the print head. Once located, leave the pad for 5 or 10 minutes whilst the solvent does its trick.

Now move the head away from park - again being gentle. You should now see the pad is a horrible black lump of mush. Pick it out and put it in the plastic bag ? where a glove or use tweezers or pliers.

Repeat the process again but this time let it to soak for just about 1 minute. You should now see the individual ink colours soaking into the pad. If the pad is still black, repeat the process a couple more times.

Once you have some evidence of the individual colours you can run a head clean via the driver or printer control panel.

Then print a nozzle check sheet and if all has gone according to plan you should have a full complement of lines.

This method is applicable ONLY for loss of a few lines on the nozzle check sheet. If you have loss of all the lines in a single or multiple colours, you need to investigate further. It is possible that the pump has failed, the pipes are clogged or something else is causing the problem.

If that does not sort it out, tru using a syringe to put a couple of drops of solvent onto the wick. Its the black plastic spike that stick up and goes into the bottom of the ink cart when it is installed. Put a cupole of drops in, put the cart back in and leave it fpr about 10 minutes. The re-try a head clean using the driver/status monitor.

There is another possibilty after this which relates to a hardware problem but this generaly causes a loss of all ink.

Hope this may help;

Regards,
VOTIT

Canon that the lights are flashing because you refilled. If so the problem maybe that the ink is not making contact with the sensor. Remember when refilling the ink must have a steady supply of ink flowing into the nozzles. Sometime because of delay in refilling you will get pockets of the sponge where it has dried out and the ink is restricted in its flow to the bottom of the cartridge. Therefore the printer will show the cartridge full but because the ink is not contacting the sensor as it prints the lights will blink. These types of cartridges will dry out also if they sit to long.
I suggest buying new cartridges and try refilling often this will solve the problem. Or another way to fix the ones you have is to remove the ink and add 1/2 mil of Isopropyl alcohol to the sponges allow it to sit for a few minutes so the alcohol runs down to the bottom of the cartridge. Moisten the bottom with alcohol as well. Put scotch tape (securely) over the port hole on the bottom of the cartridge. Let the cartridge after you injected the ink to sit over night in a saucer this allows the ink to migrate through out the sponge. Install and if the error appears a gain try the 70 second unplug and re install once again. If this occurs once again the problem may not be the cartridges but your print heads. The ink for refilling and having success should be dye based inks, pigmented inks may be a closer match to the original ink but will clog the print heads and burn them out.

The printer utility is the application you installed from the CD, the one that monitors your ink level and alerts you of paper refill.

Disconnect the printer from the computer. Turn it off and on. If the orange light is still blinking. remove the ink cartriges and put them back in and turn off and on the printer again. The orage light should not come on whether or not it is plugged into the computer. Drivers also have nothing to do with the problem if the printer is not plugged in the computer. This will help you isolate the problem further.

    1. Try this printer reset for your model.
    2. Turn off the printer ( “Power” button).
    3. Hold the button “Resume”, include printer (click “Power”).
    4. Hold the “Power” button, release the button “Resume” (power indicator / preparedness must turns green)
    5. Not releasing the “Power” button, double click “Resume” and release both buttons

      • each time you click “Resume” power indicator / willingness to change color (one-click - yellow, the second hitting - green). U printers with more than one indicator - indication switches (power indicator / preparedness - green indicator error - yellow)
      • after the buttons are released, power indicator / preparedness will be for some time to blink green (Stamford time depends on the printer model), and then the green light permanently
      • If after these actions instead of constantly burning green printer continues to display error, or you are mistaken in paragraphs 1-4 (turn off the printer and repeat with paragraph 1), or if additional printer error that must be corrected, or it will not go down to a service mode.

    6. Four times click “Resume” (each time you click “Resume” power indicator / willingness to change color, and the printers with more than one indicator - indication switches: the willingness / error).
    7. Once you click “Power” to confirm the selected action (reset counter absorber). To disable the printer “Power” button to click again. For some printers to switch off clicking “Power” again, that is three in a row

    Santiago Vallejo Jul 28, 2008

    Liebsch,

If the light turn on it means it have power.
So the cable can be unplugged from the computer and it will still power up.

If you say your printer is not detected on printers and faxes on the control panel, then there is a problem between your computer and your printer.
    Most likely the cable.

If it is firmly plugged, re-plugg it back on both ends and if the problem continues, let me know,
