Door handle has come loose

Screw has worked loose and handle just hanging on door. Other than removing the numerous screws holding the pre-formed shelf unit to the door, is there any way to re-attach it?

Screw has worked loose and handle just hanging on door. Other than removing the numerous screws holding the pre-formed shelf unit to the door, is there any way to re-attach it? Gluing the handle will not work, it requires some mechanical connection.

Voodoo confirmed what I assumed in my initial request and I guess that is the only way.

Re-attaching the door handles will require you to dettach the front door cover from the actual front door (as shown on the "parts manual") some of the units circuit may run through the door so be careful in removing the front door cover.
once it is removed, the handle mount will be exposed, place the screws if need and use compatible bushings to make sure the screw will be locked in place.

refer to the link below to get the Parts Manual and the Wiring diagram of your firdge.

good luck, i sure hope you get this one working in no time.

Hi,

Gorrilla glue bonds to EVERYTHING!!!!

Note: Take care to keep Gorilla Glue out of the reach of children and pets. It expands in the stomach if eaten and requires surgery to remove.

  • Anonymous Jul 28, 2008

You can find it at Home Depot, Lowes, home improvement stores, maybe even WalMart?Use a little, it expands!

You can also use Liquid Nails. They now have a new Liquid Nails that dries clear. For more details please check out their website:

I think you can just use a quick dry super adhesive glue to hold the handle in place.

Reversing door

Hello Graham;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

Some freezers have pre-marked holes for reversing the door. Inspect the opposite side of where your door hinges are. Also inspect the opposite side of where your door handle is to see if there are pre-marked holes.
The trick of reversing the door is the door alignment. Have someone hold up one side while you tighten the door hinges. You may have to loosen the hinges and repeat this process to get good alignment.

If there are no pre-existing holes you may try to drill them your self, but you must be exact in the location of the holes. Make sure you can move the door handle.

If your temperature control is on the door do not attempt this, the wiring harness is too short.

Can the door opening be reversed

Most refrigerators and freezers have the option of door reversal......look on the opposite side of the door and there should be screw holes under plastic plugs....which will enable you to swap the hinge to the other side. Here are a few pics for reference.

The handle is loose, how do we take the covers off so we can tighten the screws?

I had this same problem with one of my refrigerators. Most refrigerators that do not have a screw you can access will clip on to the door. Be careful because this may not be one you can do, but you should at least try. All I did was pull up firmly on the handle and it shifted up and the mounting hardware for the handle had 2 screws in it. I tightened the screws back down and clipped the handle back on. I am not an appliance pro, I am only speaking thru my own experience. Please be careful when you do this. If you feel it is too risky, then wait for a response from a pro.

Door handle of my Amana freezer drawer fell off on one side. Screw is inside the handle. How do I fix? AMANA ABL2227FESThanks

It looks like the silver handle is pushed onto the black plastic insert, which must be removed from the handle, fixed to the door and then the handle reattached.

The door handle is partly pewter and has snapped off at the Anchor. size from screw hole to screw hole 300mm

As it is and old model the genuine part is not available so I have had to make a plan. I have used a built in cupboard handle in Stailess steel and modified it to work. Anchoring the handle from the front will not work, so I have had to srtip the whole door and place small indentations in the foam insulation with washers behind the anchoring nuts.336b095.jpg

Loose handle

yes , on most freezers the door inner panel liner needs to be removed , that will sometimes require the removal of the door gasket that may be old to the point where it to needs replacing. then finally you can get to the back side of the door and snug up the screws that hold the handle from the back. usually fine thread screws. be sure to apply loc tite and snug up good , we don't want to do this again any time soon. you can take a chance and try pulling out the handle and cutting the screws and then drill the hole in the handle out to where you see a hole in the side of the handle from the front, then counter sink the hole and use a drill screw or a small toggle bolt to resecure the handle . no real wires or refigeration tubes in the door, so its an option. good luck
