Replacing the Oven Ignitor.

I read you bried steps on replacing it and it seems pretty straight forward and I've dug into the oven to get to the point when I think i can successfully remove the ignitor..One point of clarification: when i receive my new ignitor it will not have the same ends going to the "controller" that I will connect directly into? I will actually cut the wires from the old ignitor and connect the wires from the new ignitor to the cut wires using ceramic nuts?

That's all you have to do, cut them as close as possible to the old ignitor, strip them back about a quarter inch and connect them with ceramic wire nuts. Catriver

My Maytag Gemini cooktop and top oven work. The bottom oven will not heat up past 100 degrees. What is the problem?

Replacing the ignitor is not difficult or dangerous. To get at it, you will first take out the racks. Then undo the box-like cover inside the bottom of the oven; the screws face front. Underneath that is a wing-shaped cover, held in place with wingnuts. Remove it.

The pipe that the gas comes out of heads straight back; the ignitor is just to the left. You'll be able to see the wires going out the back of the oven. Remove the plates that hold the tube/ignitor combination.

Once the pipe is free, then get your head out of the oven and pull out the oven so you can see, and get at, the back. On the lower left is a cover, about 12 x 15 or so, held in place by four screws. Remove it.

At this point you can see where the ignitor connects to the orange wires (at least mine are orange) with a plastic connection. Undo that connection.

Viola! You have removed the ignitor! Now, before you forget, make a diagram of everything you did. Put the screws in separate plastic baggies, with paper number tabs that correspond to your drawing. This will greatly help in putting everything back together.

Hello,
Your Maytag Gemini is giving you the fault code for either that's it's lonely or for a "Runaway Cook Upper Oven". Now that I look at the choices the one I made up doesn't seem so funny.
Yes you have a runaway upper oven. The repair manual says to check the oven temperature sensor and replace if necessary.
Your temperature sensor will look similar to the ones in the image below.
Chances are you need a new one. If your handy with tools, replacing it is pretty straight forward.
Try the link I included for parts. They are as cheap as anyone else.
Hope this helps.

I am attempting to pre-heat oven to 400 degrees but oven heat will not raise above 100 degrees

Hi, Upon reading your post I immediately thought of a bad ignitor for the oven, but I am not sure whether you have a gas oven or a conventional electric range. So...If it is gas, I'd suggest replacing the ignitor for the hot surface ignition. If it's electric the bake element may be at fault although most range's use the broil in the preheat, so it should still climb up to 400, it would just take a really long time. Maybe you can clarify if it's electric or gas and I can try to move you forward from there. Macmarkus :)

Wall oven will not light

Remove the flame spreader panel to access the ignitor.
Place a clamp on amp meter on the ignitor wire and turn the oven on.
If you read less than 2.9 amps, replace the ignitor.
If you read 2.9 to 3.2 amps replace the gas safety valve.
