All you need to do is boot to the recovery console, and type the following commands, in order:

cd \

Dear shad8681,

Looks like the destructive restore did not complete alltogether. Try running the restore one more time to see if it will finish this time. If not, then try reinstalling Windows from a regular CD (like XP or so)

Good luck!

Trying to recover my hp pavilion a735w with cd. get to screen where i choose os to recover. I have 1 H; minint 2 H: i386 and 3 C: windows. I have a compressed ntldr error and was able to copy ntldr fr

this could be an indicator of a damaged hard drive. It can also be caused by not booting from the CD itself. ensure your booting from the CD. if you are, it appears that the file structure on your harddrive is damaged and needs to be replaced..

check your user manual for booting from the cd, its usually pressing F9 when the system boots (where it ask you to press del to enter setup, you can also enter the setup and set the first boot device as CD.

How can I decompress the NTLDR on my computer? My computer just shut off and when I turned it back on the screen said ....NTLDR is compressed. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart. I have done that and it...

It sounds like the Operating System start up files are damaged. If NTLDR is corrupted then you will need to run the OS installation disc and try to repair the Windows installation. If the repair does not work you may need to re-install the operating system using the installation disc that came with your computer.

I have a emachines w 3107 I tried to use the system recoverey disk. I went through the whole process, Then when it re boots a error says NTLDR is compressed press alr cont del , And I get the same error...

An NTLDR is compressed error is pretty easy to fix(much better then NTLDR is missing errors!).

First you need to boot to the recovery console.

To boot to the recovery console follow these steps:
1. Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and then restart the computer. Click(or press any key) to select any options that are required to start the computer from the CD-ROM drive if you are prompted.
2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
3. When prompted type "1" or if you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the installation that you must access from the Recovery Console.
4. When you are prompted, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER.
5. Now you should be at the command prompt and ready to repair the ntldr file!

Now all you need to do is enter the following commands(in order) and each command on a new line just like you see them here:

cd \
attrib -c ntldr

Your computer should now reboot, and everything "should" work.

Ntldr compressed have no xp cd or recovery disks lost somewhere

you cannot repair the NTLDR without an XP disc to repair the system, but it may be the drive, you can connect it to another pc as slave and then run the disk error check tool in my computer.

You're in a real dilemma without an XP CD (it doesn't have to be yours). What you need to do is to repair the installation. I'm assuming you intentionally compressed your hard drive.

What you need to do is to boot to the CD and then, when prompted, press "R" to recover you build. It will take you to a shelled DOS prompt. From there run CHKDSK on your boot drive and it should see the compressed NTLDR and fix it.
