i have a zune gb 8 my zune touch pad stopped working while i was using it

  • Chibi_Sigma Dec 06, 2008

8gb just stopped working all of a sudden.
I tried to turn it on and enter my password but the touch pad won't work, although the play and back button still do.
Reset is impossible due to touch pad necessity.

  • svydanugget Jan 14, 2009

    Touchpad isn't working microsoft.

  • zedfly94 Jan 21, 2009

Yup. This suks! Buttons work just fine. The Touchpad is useless. I got the Altek Lansing M1414 Docking station for Xmas and that suked too. Had to return it because it wouldnt recognize the zune.

  • Anonymous Jan 30, 2009

same problem on a very lightly used zune. I can sync and add songs but none of the buttons work so it is useless. From my research so far looks like a dead machine and Microsoft says they will fix it for only $129! What a deal since a new one can be had for under $100. Thanks for nothing Microsoft.

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2009

EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM OMG im mad lol i guess ill save and get an iTouch instead.

  • darling005 Feb 15, 2009

  • Anonymous Feb 28, 2009

    Everything but the touchpad works!

  • Pixel Alice Mar 15, 2009

The same thing happened to me. This morning I was changing the song and then the touchpad wouldn't respond. I try resating it but no dice. Now I learn my lesson that nothing could beat the iPod. Stupid cheap Zune.

  • Jessimacah Mar 26, 2009

    Ugh!!

My friend and i traded zunes for the day.

And then i was using it, and it froze.

Then the touch pad stopped responding to everything.

The back button and play button work.

So you can still listen to music.

well, the last song you were listening to.

Or it will just play the entire song list over and over.

    But its ridiculous.

And ive been plugging it in.

    And leaving it there.

Then messing with the hold button.
And it comes on. But only for a few clicks.

    Then it freezes again.

Okay now I know I'm not alone. I've had my zune for 4 months. Then one day I was playing with one of the games then all of a sudden my pad froze. I wanted to cry. I called tech support and they told me to send it in. I've searched all over the internet to fix the problem but no luck.

I found the solution. what you do is you plug your zune into your usb port and your zune home page will come up automatically. as soon as your computer reads it look in the top right corner and go to settings. then go to device. finally press erase all content.

when it is done your zune should be empty but it will scroll and work once more...im not sure what is wrong but i had this same problem with my i pod and this same solution fixed that problem also.
ZUNES ARE MUCH BETTER THAN I PODS, stay zune and proud.

if you have any further problems with your microsoft products you can email me at zombiepoptartz@yahoo.com

this solution should work, it worked pretty well for me I just needed to upload everything back on my zune but it works exactly the same.

  • FiredinSilen Feb 05, 2011

I was having the same problem. However that solution didn't solve the problem for me. Not being one to give up, I tried installing the Zune games from my PC figuring it would re-flash the firmware in the process. Sure enough my Zune pad is working again. I still did the firmware reset right after just to be safe. So is erasing the content does not work for you try installing the games.

Does anyone know how to fix error 5 code?

Many Zune users will tell you of the dreaded error 5.

When the error occurs it means that the Zune has encountered a problem that it cannot recover from and informs users to contact customer support.

Usually to fix this error, the Zune must be sent to Microsoft. If the Zune is under warranty and the owner is within the US, this is little more than an inconvenience.

If the owner is outside of the US this is not and option and if the warranty has expired, the fix can come at a high price.

However, before sending a Zune off to Microsoft for fixing, there are a number of things to try.

The first thing to try would be to restart the Zune.

The steps to restart the device vary based on Zune model. For the Zune HD player, the user should press and hold the on/off button for roughly ten seconds and the player will reset.

For the non-touchscreen models of Zune, the user should unlock the hold switch.

Then, press and hold the back button and the top button of the Zune pad. The device should restart and the user can release the buttons.

If this does not fix the error, then the user should try reinstalling the software on their Zune device.

To reinstall the software on a Zune HD, the user should press and hold the on/off button for about ten seconds.

When the device restarts, the user should press and hold the "Media" button until the message "Connect Zune To Your PC" displays on the screen.

The user should make sure they have the most up to date Zune software installed on their computer and connect the Zune.

Update the Zune and it should be ready for use again. If the user continues to experience problems, then the Zune HD software may have to be completely deleted and reinstalled. Doing this will completely delete everything on the Zune, so anything that has not been backed up will be lost, including purchased items.

To do this, the user should hold down the on/off button again until the Zune HD restarts.

Upon restarting, the user should immediately press both the "Media" and the "Home" buttons until "Connect Zune To Your PC" displays.

The user should then connect their Zune HD to a computer with the most up to date Zune software and update the Zune.

For the non-touchscreen Zune models, the following step will erase user data (including purchased items), so a backup is recommended.

First, the user should unlock the hold button.

Then the back button and the top button should both be pressed and held down.

The next step varies by model. For owners with a Zune 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 80GB, and 120GB, the Back button, Zune pad, and Play/Pause button should all be pressed and held down.

The user should continue to hold them until they get a "Please wait" message.

For owners of the Zune 30GB, the Back button, the left side of the Zune pad, and the center of the Zune pad should all be held down until "Please wait" displays.

After data is cleared, the message "Connect Zune To Your PC" will appear.

The user should connect the Zune to a computer with the most recent version of the Zune software installed on it.

After the software is installed, the Zune should be ready for use.

If these measures fail to fix error 5, then the Zune owner will likely have to send the device to Microsoft as the problem is deeper than a software issue.

Sadly, it is not always clear what causes error 5 to occur. In these cases, there are few other options than to leave it to the experts.

hope this helps

Zune will not turn on

1. If the Zune device is not connected to a power source, set the Hold switch to unlocked. Then, press and hold the Play/Pause button to turn off the device. • If this does not work, restart the device. To restart the device, set the Hold switch to the unlocked position, and then press and hold the Back button zune_button_back.gif as you press the top of the Zune Pad. When the device begins to reset, you can release the buttons. 2. If the Zune device is connected to a power source, it is operating correctly. You cannot manually turn off the Zune device. Note Depending on how you configured your backlight setting, the backlight for the Zune device may automatically turn off in this situation. To access the backlight options, select display on the settings menu, and then press the center of the Zune pad. To adjust the setting, select backlight, and then press the center of the Zune pad.

The usb connected icon that sits on bottom right of the task bar say its connected but may not work properly and windows starts making the default sound for connecting and unconnecting as the zune resets...

I would recommend you to hard reset the player using the instructions below:

WARNING: A hard reset will delete everything on your Zune.

  • Press and hold the back button
  • Press and hold up until it reboots
  • Depending on which Zune you have, immediately do one of the following:
  1. If you have a Zune 4 GB, Zune 8BG, or Zune 80GB, immediately press and hold the Back button Back at the same time as you press the right side of the Zune pad and the Play/Pause button. Continue to hold these buttons until the Zune device restarts and you receive the following message: "Clearing contents. Please wait."
  2. If you have a Zune 30GB, immediately press and hold the Back button Back at the same time that you press the right side of the Zune pad and the center of the Zune pad. Continue to hold these buttons until the Zune device restarts and you receive the following message: "Clearing contents. Please wait."
I hope the above steps would help resolve the issue.

Please revert back for any more issues that you may face.

Regards

Anand

My 30gig zune is froze and unresponsive. Please help

there is a "lock" button on the top on the left side make sure this switch is turned to off.
Try one or more of these solutions to resolve this problem:
  • The Zune may be locked. Move the hold switch to the unlocked position. It may help to move the switch back and forth. Then press the play/pause button for a second.
  • The battery may be drained.try recharging it
  • To reset your Zune, press and hold the back button while pressing up on the Zune pad. Resetting turns Zune off and on again.

Zune Backlight

It happens to my Zune often. Don't Worry. Reset your zune. Now hold the back button while holding the upper part of your touch pad, when it starts to reboot immediately connect it to your computer. Continue to restart your zune again and again (i.e back and upper part of touch pad) and keep on unplugging and plugging it to your computer. It will work out. I'm SURE. This happened to me, I tried this method and it worked but after I restarted the zune 4 times!!!

Hello my friend, I was about to throw my zune to the trash but I thought, what the hell let's open this piece of ****. So I looked up for a video in youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJwLn75RQRM, this guy teaches you how to change your zune hard drive, it's preaty cool. So I opened my device and first I disconeccted and connected both cables (Battery and the other one I don't know what it is...), started up my device and walahh!! it worked. I hope it works for you!

Zune

To reset the zune you must press and hold the back button and the top part of the zune pad. Other parts of the zune pad will not work.

When plugging the zune into your PC does the PC detect it (device manager -> portable devices). You should hear the ding sound of hardware connecting.

If it is connecting to the PC and is not detected by the software than it is likely a permissions problem. Right click the software icon and choose run as administrator.

If it is not detected by the PC than check your usb cable and make sure your zune is charged and not frozen.

Zune won't charge

now what you do is if the zune just has a black screen with a battery symbol and it stays that way forever when on the charger. you, take the zune off the charger and press the play/pause button and if it turns on for a second with the low battery symbol then turns off, your in luck, just hold the play/pause button for 10 - 20 minutes. the zune will have turned on and off alot agitating the battery. once you hold it for 10 - 20 minutes put it on the charger, then presto it works. let charge fully then die completly for every time you use it for a bout a month to let the battery get back into it's normal cycle. ~Dan herzberg~ Thank you*
