Karlox...thanks for the suggestion.....My son has been working on this for me. I have sent him your procedure. I'm not sure where he is at. I was told that I didn't need to reformat and install XP pro. All I had to do was uninstall the 'Media center edition part, and I would be left with XP Pro...too late for that. I do know my son has reformatted and installed XP several times...usin the procedure listed...still no audio OR internet. All that worked before...

The original problem was that MCE wouldn't work with some of my music hardware/software...particularly MIDI devices hooked up thru USB.Apparently it is a well-documented problem...only Microsoft and Dell don't admit it...and offer no solutions.

    I'll keep you posted.

Hi artifax,

I have a suggestion/solution for this that I need you to try. Here it is:

first, go to add or remove programs, look for Creative/SoundBlaster and Sigmatels listed there and uninstall every one of them. Then, go to Device manager and uninstall Creative/Soundblaster/Sigmatel under sound and game controllers. reboot the system.

now download and run this,
E1505/6400 BIOS

then download and install this,
Sigmatel Audio Driver

Do not install any Creative first, then let me know if this works.

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Karlox™ :)

Dell inspiron 8100 drivers

your audio driver is not helpful for sound card which is you install on your pc.
plaese change this driver.
all windows have different driver for different devices.
so you install the driver compatible with window vista and sound card.
