Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

Generic11.gw Virus Hi I have Windows Vista but hopefully someone can help me anyway. I have a virus I believe to be "generic11.gw". It stops searches on search engines from loading and starts draining my RAM until there's nothing left. I've scanned with AVG, Sybot and a few others but no luck. Please help!

Thanks a million. That's a handy link but unfortunately nothing was detected so I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree. As a novice, the only other theory I can come up with is that 'virtumonde' is behind it. My internet is no longer affected (at least not during this session) but right now, at ~550MB, I'm down to half my normal amount of free RAM.

I reckon this is probably something very simple that isn't worth the expense of going to a repair shop over but I just can't put my finger on it:(

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Ok Dan a usb flash drive is theoretically a hardive external I believe your problem lies in one the virus protection that I never use or Vista isn't compatible with the autocad . Check to see if your running 64 bit vista or 32 most programs don't run well at 64 bit.I run xp pro no anti virus an no problems.

When i log on, and windows loads i get a logon.exe and it says "this application has failed to start becuase the application configuration is incorrect

Hi, A Virus or Spyware may have caused this and i recommend a Virus scan. Viruses causes Windows files to fail to start. A Virus has probably configured with logon.exe and has stopped it from working. If your Anti-Virus scan does not work then a Virus has stopped your scan from working and then that means that you will have to reinstall Windows.

I really hope this helps and please let me know on how it goes.

Take care

Vista not updating and unable to open control panel and display properties

1) Launch services.msc from a run command
2) Find the SLUNotify service & stop it
3) Find the Software Licensing service & stop it (it may say that ReadyBoost needs that service to run; stop it anyway)
4) Restart both services, starting with Software Licensing

That's all. No reboot needed.

Virus scan

Start the computer in SAFE MODE by pressing f8 during bootup before the windows flash screen comes up -select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING- it will start slower than normal and open in safe mode printed in each corner of the screen.
If you ave not updated your virus software , nows a good time.
Run your virus software, it should be able to catch the virus in safe mode.
