Try your headphones in a different audio device. If the problem persists than the headphones have a split in the wiring for the left earbud. If you are under warranty then Sennheiser will happily repair your headphones.
try using other headphones to your unit, if it plays, the problem is in the CX400 indeed.
usually caused by unintentional yanking & other factors, the internal of the wires were broken, it can be fixed yes, with patience and some soldering skills, just find the appropriate cable for that particular model, with imagination you can even use other headphone cables,

Try wiggling light switch side to side kinda hard, (the light switch is
the one on the left) it should come on, showing you its a bad lt.
switch.if that fails install 1 new 40watt,(long) appliance bulb. but it
is going to be the switch or the bulb considering there wasn't any
wiring work done on unit. part# for the light switch is 3060140 make
sure the back of the switch is white not black (black is a fan switch)
