The paper won't feed into a lexmark X3480 - Printers & Copiers

Mine has been having sporadic problems feeding in the past few months but stopped altogether this morning. I read a couple of solutions involving taking the unit apart and turning the rubber roller around but I don't feel comfortable disassembling my unit. I have also tried cleaning the rollers and this resulted in ONE sheet of paper feeding, and no more. As far as I can tell the rollers are clean and unworn and the spring mechanisms are all working correctly. The rubber rollers don't feel shiny or glazed and the white rollers look clean.

There are a pair of white rollers on a spring loaded assembly that feeds the paper into the machine. If these rollers are glazed or very worn, they will not feed the paper.

Also, the mechanism is known for its temperamental nature. I also recommend removing the paper tray and manually lifting the paper feed assembly gently by hand, insuring that it returns downward in a smooth and unobstructed manner. There are tiny clips that must be released on the white feed rollers, if you decide to remove them. However, I suggest giving them a good cleaning with a soft cloth moistened with dish cleaning detergent and water. Use very little detergent -- just a drop or so, and water. Wipe the feed rollers until the entire "tread" area is clean on both rollers.

Paper wont feed in anymore. Tries to feed in but goes in wonky and then jams

Check to see if there are any jams in the printer, use a flashlight to get a good look around.

If you don't see any jams, Shake the printer around to loosen up any debris so it falls out of the printer. Alot of times kids fool around and put things in the printer and sometimes they are in the area where the paper feeds thru. If you do this and the paper still jams up, then that means the gears are worn and you'll have to get another printer because parts wouldn't be available for it.

Replace the paper feeder or the rollers on the paper feeder are not rolling ar getting jamed. You need to have this serviced or just get yourself another printer. Clear the paper jam

1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button. (On the X83, press the Select button.)
4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
7. Turn the printer off.
8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.

Good luck..
