Ejects cd from my dell inspiron 6400 and will not play or read

remove the CDROM (turn notebook around, remove the drive and reinsert after 1 minute.. perhaps it requires reseating.

if this fails, then accoding to Dell support Discs burned with this drive may not be compatible with some existing drives and players ; using DVD+R media provides maximum compatibility , if you have the 8x DVD/CD Burner (DVD+/-RW)
tip

Create a Shortcut or Hotkey to Eject the CD/DVD Drive

Create a Shortcut to Eject the CD/DVD Drive
Right-click on the desktop or elsewhere and choose New \ Shortcut.
In the location box, put the full path to the nircmd.exe file that you downloaded, and append the "cdrom open" command to the end of it, adjusting the drive letter to match your disc drive:
"C:\path\to\nircmd.exe" cdrom open D:
Note the location of the quotes.. if you are using a path with spaces in it, you need to make sure the quotes are only around the path to the executable, and the arguments should be placed after the quote.
Give the shortcut a meaningful name, like Eject CD or something like that, and you'll have a new icon (read below on how to use the cd-rom icon as shown)
Create a Shortcut to Close the CD/DVD Drive
You can follow the same exact instructions as above, but instead of "cdrom open" just substitute "cdrom close".
Assign a Hotkey to the Shortcut
Now that we have a shortcut, we can assign a hotkey to the shortcut by right-clicking on the icon and choosing Properties. On the Shortcut tab you'll see a place to assign the Shortcut key:

I have a Phillips HDD & DVD player/Recorder and when i try to open the try a sign comes up saying BLOCKED and I can't load a disc

Hi and welcome to the site,

Initially, postback with the model number.

BLOCKED as it implies indicates that the tray could not slide out; a common problem with some Philips models. Fix is to replace the DVD deck mechanism. Workaround is to always leave a disc inside.

Offhand, on most Philips models, there would be a manual eject slot at the bottom of the unit as shown in the representative image below.

Good luck and thank you for asking.

A dvd is stuck in the drive. It resists all attempts at removal including the ''eject cd'' command in Open Firmware. Can I manually remove it?

The iMac (Slot loading) computer's disc eject mechanism is electrical instead of mechanical. To eject a CD-ROM disc at startup that contains system software, press the mouse button until the computer ejects the disc. If the disc does not contain system software, wait for the iMac to start up and drag the disc icon to the Trash.

If either of these steps fails to eject the disc, push the drive's manual eject button with a small, blunt object like a paper clip. This button is located to the right of the CD/DVD slot as shown in Figure 1. The computer must be turned on to eject a disc in this manner.

ht3007_1.gifFigure 1 Manual eject button

Once the disc is ejected, it extends just beyond its center hole so you can remove it from the drive. If the disc fails to eject, while holding in the paper clip, use another CD to gently push against the inserted CD. This gentle pressure may help to release the inserted CD.

Important: After ejecting the disc with the manual eject button, you must restart the iMac in order for the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive to work.

Dell xps m1330 dvd drive will not eject cd inside

Im a dell tech, and i hate those cdrom styles, but, that is what the consumer wants, so we make them. Try starting the machine, then press F2 to enter the BIOS. once in the bios, press the eject button. listen for any noises, (an attempt to eject). if you hear a sound, it means the drive should be capable of ejecting the disc, and perhaps the disc has not seated correctly. If the disc will not eject, you must contact Dell. This is from the DELL dcse site: " Optical Drive The XPS M1330 has a slot-loading optical drive instead of a conventional tray-loading module. There is no mechanical eject mechanism for the drive to eject stuck discs. This means you must replace the drive if a disc gets stuck in the drive. After replacing the drive, disassemble the old drive to remove the disc for the customer."

Dvd will not finalize

You can turn the burn speed down.
Make sure the program knows what size disc is in and what size disc it is trying to burn onto.
If the software thinks you're trying to burn onto a dual layer when you are only trying to burn onto a 4.5Gb disc, that can create issues.
This is obvious but make sure the data fits the disc.
If the problem persists, take note of the burning error and post a comment.
