You need to run the installation in compatibility mode. This will allow the software to work virtually in a lower OS like Windows XP.

Compatibility settings for older programs to run in Vista and Windows 7

Because of the way some software was written before windows Vista and Windows 7, such as windows XP applications they are not always compatible with the newer operating systems. However Microsoft has included some compatibility settings on executable files to hopefully fix these incompatibilities, so if a program isn't function properly in windows 7 you may wish to try this.

1. Right click on the .exe or .msi installer package for the program you wish to install

2. In the right click menu select the properties option

3. In the tabs that appear select the compatibility tab

4. Set the drop down operating system to be compatible with to the operating system that the program is designed to run on.

5. Check the box that is labeled "run as administrator"

hope this helps your applications that are performing unexpectedly in windows 7
How to check a hard drive for errors in Windows

Windows comes with many diagnostic, repair, and maintenance tools that can help you get the most life and best performance out of your computer. One of these tools is the hard drive error-checking utility.

Over time, your hard drive can develop problems, both with the physical disk itself as well as with corrupted areas of the file system. Running the error-checking utility can sometimes fix these problems, and if it can't fix them, it can at least identify and isolate them. It's a good idea to run error-checking once in a while to optimize your hard drive.

To run Windows error-checking, follow the steps below.

1. Click on the Start button (in Vista, click on the Vista orb) to bring up the Start menu.

2. Select My Computer (in Vista, select Computer).

3. Right click on the hard drive you want to scan for errors and select
Properties.

4. In the Disk Properties window, click on the Tools tab.

5. Under the "Error-checking" heading, click "Check Now...."

In the Check Disk window that appears, there are two options. You can run error-checking with neither, one, or both of those options selected, depending on how intensive a scan you want to run (and how long you have to wait). If you check the first option (Automatically fix file system errors) and click Start, you'll be prompted to restart your computer in order for the utility to able to run; you can either restart now or restart later, and when the computer boots back up, the check disk program will run.

The second option (Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors) can be run immediately, but it can take a lot of time to finish. The bad sector check has four phases, and you'll see a status bar to let you know how far along the check is. Only select this option if you don't need your computer for a while. If you are using a laptop, connect to an external power source before clicking Start to begin the scan.
