Some problem here, yet canon says it doesn't exist! Some one, [compu-geek friend o' mine], stated in another forum that the issue is with Vista & what ever security [anti-virus/spyware] software, making a mess of the plug-n-play communications between the camera & the computer. I asked them to track what exactly is being altered since it just occurred on my system last week. It played nice with the crappy O/S for a long while, but I guess the power of the dark side finally won. I will check back to let you all know what is found since this obviously is not a remote incident.

Many others in many other forums have said to use a card reader. THAT IS NOT A FIX!!! That just ignores the issue with a work around and does not fix what is broken. If the software is f%^&#d up & will not work with the camera, you also lose the ability to use photostitch, auto-sort videos from photos, and break files down & save by timeline. YES, it can all be done manually, but that is not the point. It takes time to do that & when the software/camera is supposed to do it for us, we should not have to.

Many people are experiencing this issue, Canon doesn't aknowledge the problem, and many "knowledgable" don't see the true issue here and apply a lame "do this instead" non-fix.

THIS NEEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND CORRECTED!

Greetings myazdi,

It is unfortunate that some cameras as well as other older programs and Vista do not get along. One solution I have heard of is to utilize a memory card reader such as any of these:

I hope this helps.

If your camera is not relatively new and you're running Vista, Vista may have problems seeing it. Unfortunately, this can't be corrected as Canon did not update the drivers for their older cameras to be compatible with Vista. But there exists a good, if not better alternative way to download your photos. Please don't take the following as a sales pitch as it's not, but please see this link, as it describes the use of an inexpensive USB card reader as a much easier, faster, and less error prone way to download your photos. In fact there are several important reasons discussed in the article for using a card reader vice downloading from the camera. USB Card readers are also very inexpensive these day, with cost virtually not an issue:

Many times the older version drivers will work as new released operating systems try to be backwards compatible with software. Try loading the XP software or search the Canon website for updated software for your model.

Downloading pictures to Windows vista

You can remove the memory card from the camera and put into a card reader if your computer has one.

It could be the cable between your camera and the computer is shorted. You might have to replace it.

The Foxz3 drivers aren't configured for Vista (only mentions Windows 98, 2000 and XP on the original box). However, you can grab your pix by treating the Foxz3 as a mass storage device (in MSDC mode - not PC Camera). Worked fine for downloading my daughter's pix onto our Vista laptop. Not so hot for videoclips though.

Wont work with windows vista

I assume that you have already tried plugging in your camera and letting Vista look for the correct driver! If you have your original disk that came with the camera, try it. Even though it was not for Vista. Most USB equipment require that you first install the drivers before you plug in the device. I have not checked the Vivitar web site since I still use Windows XP but they might have a driver available for your camera. Keep in mind that you do not need to use the USB port to download your pictures to the computer!!! You could purchase a USB Card Reader that is Vista compatable and simple remove the Memory card from your camera and let the Card Reader transfer your pictures to the computer. When you have finnished copying your pictures to the computer, do not let the computer delete them! If you do, the camera may not work properly. I once let the computer blank out the memory chip and then my camera would not work until I reformated the chip with the camera. Then the chip would work again. Simply use your camera to remove the pictures after you have put them on your computer.

No need for you to install any CD software because your camera
will be recognized automatically as a removable disk when your computer has the following Operating Systems.

For transferring pictures with OS (Windows 98/XP/Vista/2000/MAC 9.2-10.3 ):
- Turn off camera
- Plug USB cable to camera and PC
- Turn on camera
- Connect to computer or printer will come out on camera screen
- Select the desired one
- Press MENU/OK
- "New Hardware Found" will be seen on the right lower corner
- A window will pop out with various options
- Example: "Open to View Files", "Copt to a folder"...

* If nothing like those mentioned above happened,

Double check through Computer Devices with Removable storage:
- Look for DCIM folder in any of the Removable storage
- Select 100sscam folder inside DCIM folder
- Upon opening, all pictures will be viewed

Just try to make sure that you'll be using the USB cable supplied
in the package and your PC does have good working USB ports.

Windows Vista Drivers for Jazz JDC38W camera

You should not need any driver for a camera.
When camera is connected via USB cord Windows will simply recognise a new device or drive and you will see it in 'My Computer.
Also Windows camera and scanner Wizard should come up and ask what you want to do with the images.

Downloading Problem

I have always advised folk to leave the software disk in the box when connecting cameras and the like to a NTFS system. Plug it into USB port and Windoze will find it. Should be the same with Vista I guess Leave the disk in the box- or of you have installed stuff uninstall it. And let Windoze do the work.
