Vivitar Telephoto 100mm f/3.5 Macro Manual Focus Lens for Canon FD

Vivitar lenses - anyone have anything good to say...

By Pasty - usenet poster

The subject sort of says it all.  B&H sells Vivitar AF lenses for the
big 4 manufacturers, and yet, nobody talks about them.

www.photoREVIEW.com doesn't mention list them, even with 0 reviews (as
they do for a number of other lenses).  The prices are very low, but
there's not always a price/quality correlation, even in the photo world.

So, if you'd be willing to share any experiences with Vivitar lenses, I'd
be glad to hear 'em.  Email or post - whatever works for you.

Thanks.

: I use the Vivitar 24mm quite often, and it kicks butt. GREAT results, which I
: didn't expect from a $90 lens. Sure, it won't last a lifetime, but it hasn't

i have a vivitar 28mm f2 in nikon mount that is absolutely magical -- i
paid $30 for it, later bought a nikon 28 and ... later sold the nikon and
kept the vivitar. it's not necessarily sharper, but ... well, it's never
taken a bad picture. it's amazing. one of those weird magical moments that
you'll rarely get between you and your equipment.

that said, vivitar doesn't make their own stuff so it's hit or miss w/ the
stuff you buy from them.

I have a Vivitar 70-300 and have some reservations about it (had to have it
repaired recently because it wasn't zooming all the way to 300.)

No problems to report with my 19mm f/3.5 or my 100mm macro f/3.5 (both are
manual focus). IMO, they're definitely worth what I paid for them and probably
more.

Vivitar( Cosina) has two AF lenses that are very good in terms of price/Quality
ratio.
100mm 3.5 Macro - which is just about as sharp as the big four's macros and the
19-35 mm zoom. You can't go wrong with either of these lenses.
