Check the volume control hasn't been muted in Control Panel>Sounds and Audio Properties

Check if you could scct the volume control on the task bar right coner if yes then chk if it is on mute
then go to control panel and click on sound and chk the setting is set on home speaker or stereo or try checking the speaker on a diffrent cd palyer and see if that works.
