My Dell Inspiron 2200 stopped working. When I turn it on 3 or the light turns on then it turns off.

Also try to clean the cpu fan and make sure that its spinning and able to spin (use air) also it sounds like me that you ac adaptor is bad.. and battory is dead. causeing cpu to turn on for about 2-3 sec then furn off... I would definly check the ac adaptor a VOM(volt meter) before replacing pc.. because it sounds to me to be a bad ac adapor or fan

I'm sorry to inform you that if that's how the lights acts when you try to turn your computer on, then the motherboard needs to be replaced. It could be caused by an improper shutdown or power failure. Call Dell and have it replaced if it still has a warranty. If not, then call Dell at this number 1800-2884410 to have an estimate on how much it will cost to have the motherboard replaced.

Let it cool down.. Put it in the freezer(in a plastic bag for 20 minutes with the battery out of it. Then allow it to warm up for 10 minutes. these laptops are not great at playing games because they overheat..you should get an external graphics card if you get this running again..

Mine is doing the same thing, the green lights turn on, then they turn off after about 3 seconds.
I have the exact same problem, although I have an Inspiron 600M. Mine just started to do this this past week, and I am wonding if it is hopeless to even get it fixed.
Stopped turning on one day, would POST, run setup and boot menu, boot CD otherwise wouldnt go. turns on, powers up, posts, bliking cursor, then nothing, just charge light (a/c in) and num lock. Ran the diagnostics Cs that generic on for several models... did you run the diagnosis by symptom program on the Utility **** that came with the lappy?try it it found bad blocks in the hdd, easy upgrade fix to 120GB in my inspiron 2200!yeah!
