Steprod replacing that on your own without technical expertise in that area will be difficuly and could worsen the problem and perhaps even cause the rise of other secondary problems. Having it replaced at the place you purchased the laptop wouldn't cost much and ensure that things are done correctly and the replacement keyboard is compatible. If you want you could also copy and paste the following URL into your browser for additional information and service and repair offered at this site:

http://support.gateway.com/s/faq/c-custserv/cserv67.shtml

Let me know how it goes.

If it is desktop as you have mentioned then this is not a big job sir.

just remove the existing one and plug in a new one.

but Gateway Solo 2550 is a note book.

since you mentioned it as a desktop i gave you that simple solution.

for replacing the keyboard you will have to remove the back of the notebook and remove the screws and get the front cover off.

after doing this you can be able to remove the keyboard. but you wont be able to replace the touch pad.

for replacing the touch pad you will have to remove the whole unit very carefully sir.

    thank you

How can I open the case of gateway solo 2150? I

There is some information on FixYa for this already which can be found at the post below. Generally with a laptop, you'll have some hidden screws under a bezel on the top of the keyboard area. You gently pop this off with a small screwdriver and underneath will be the screws that hold the keyboard in. After removing these, you generally can disassemble the rest of the laptop.

Solo 9100 battery

Well, 8 years is an excellent life for any laptop battery. Being that old it will either be a nicad or nimh battery, both of which suffer from battery memory. There is very little you can do. Sometimes, charging the battery as much as possible, REMOVE IT FROM THE LAPTOP, put it into a plastic bag, seal it against moisture, and then put it into a freezer for 12 hours. Replace it into the laptop, charge it again, repeat twice more. If the battery has a bit of life in it you may be able to reclain SOME of it's capacity back. This is a last ditch effort, and should be carried out as a last option. That leaves either buying a new battery, this eBay link will take you to one

It's probably time to replace the whole laptop though.
Hope this helps

Need to upgrade my usb ports to 2.0 for my laptop

Sorry to say that there is no way to upgrade usb 1.1 ports to usb 2 as it is related to the chipset connected to them. Windows service packs do not help in this case where it is hardware to be changed. Try looking for a PCMIA card that has usb 2 ports on.

This is not a good laptop, If you are thinking of purchasing. My advice is no. It just doesnt have the processing power to run almost anything.

If you could leave a comment with a price range your willing to spend. Ill find you a laptop thats much nicer.

Opening a Gateway Solo 2150 laptop

I found the answer on another wed site. I tried it on my Gateway Solo 1500 and it works! The extra screws are hidden on top. You carefully remove the small face plate around the power button. I used a very small screw drive to lift it off.

I'm also an A+ certified tech, but I've done notebook service for a lot of years. I just finished opening up a Gateway Solo 1400 and it was NOT easy! There are no screws holding the keyboard on the bottom of the machine. You can get the case open about 95% and there will be one area stuck, in the back near where the screen cable goes into the unit. There is a hidden screw on the top of the case next to the hinge. To get to it, you have to remove the two screws that hold the plastic hinge cover and pry off the cover. I only managed to find it after removing the keyboard, the display, and the panel with the LEDs and power button. (The screws holding the keyboard are on the top of the machine, underneath the cover with the power button on it.)

I need to disconnect the cmos battery, but don't know where it is on a gateway solo laptop 2550. please help!

Take it apart and look for it. That is the only way to find it. You will have to cross the connections to clear it while it boots up. It looks like a coin.
