This sounds like a defrost problem or a pluged drain line or both . in the back of freezer if you can see ice build up its a defrost problem . // i would replace the defrost terminator and deice the cold coil and see what happens . in most cases this will cure the problem mm feed back pls ..

My fridge is leaking water from the top shelf down to the bottom and onto the floor

You most likely have a clogged defrost drain tube in the freezer, this diverts water through the damper into the fridge section in units with the freezer on top... Remove the back wall of the freezer and look beneath the tubing and you will see an ice pad... Use a turkey baster and warm water to reveal the drain hole, then force warm water down it until it is clear... Have some towels handy. Whirlpool Refrigerator Drain Strap 819043

The top of the inside of my 2002 Whirlpool refrigerator Model ET1FTK (top mount)is frozen and is dripping onto the first shelf.

Hello,

The cause of that drip is going to be a blocked defrost drain in the freezer and the water from the defrost is pooling up in the freezer then when it can't hold anymore it's dripping through the vent in the ceiling of the refrigerator onto the shelfs. By removing the back wall of the freezer you could find the drain on the bottom of the freezer coil. By GENTLY peircing that frozen drain at a 45 degree angle until a small hole is formed in the built up ice it could be totally flushed using warm water once a small opening is made in the ice in the drain.

Water leaking from freezer onto top shelf of frig. has to be wiped once a day.

You probably have a blocked or frozen drain hole in the freezer. This means that the water formed during defrost can't drain down to the evaporator tray beneath the fridge and instead goes through overflow holes into the refrigerator.

I posted about how I solved this problem in another post:

TOP FREEZER REFRIGERATOR WITHOUT ICEMAKER LEAKS ONTO TOP SHELF AND UNDER BOTTOM DRAWER

the condensate drain hose is blocked.
remove the plastic rear cover in the freezer; locate the drain opening;
it's about 1/2 inch in diameter; it drains into a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. using a funnel and, a small pan, pour hot water through the blocked hose until water flows into the drain pan again.
remove the condensate pan pour the water out and, reinstall the pan.

Water is leaking onto top shelf of fridge. It is a top freezer.

Sounds like you have a frozen drain in the freezer. You can remove the back panel of the freezer and take a turkey baster and run hot water down the drain line to clear it. Once its cleared you will want to dump an additional cup of water down to make sure that its clear. This will stop the defrost tray from overflowing when the unit goes into defrost. This is where the water is coming from.
Hope this helps _MJ_

The water is overflowing from the freezer onto refrig shelf

Yes, let the unit thaw out, and replace that thin wire. it's called a drain heater, it simply keeps the water from freezing before it gets out the drain.

Kenmore elite - Water dripping from freezer to refrigerator

Your refrigerator has a defrost drain blockage behind the evaporator in your your freezer compartment. Some models like yours have leak in the turns as the water leaves the freezer. I recommend that you unplug and remove the cover to the evaporator and check the defrost condensate tray below the evaporator. A wet vacuum cleaner and poring a solution with clorox in the drain will help you clean locate the leak and where the blockage may be downline.. I do have the manual on yours and can help you solve this. Some times this is a factory defect and I can help you solve the freezing drain problem. Let me know, Sea Breeze

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.
