It is running very slow . It can't read a little bit old cd\ dvd. When a cd/dvd is inserted system has encounted a problem amd hang up for several minutes .............. and it can't burn disc...

This sounds like a simple problem to fix. You need to get a cd/dvd cleaner disk and place it in the drive. Allow the disk to perform as indicated by the audio instructions included on the disk. All modern lens cleaning disks have the audio instructions that play as the disk is in the machine, so that the customer knows what to do, and in what order to do it in.

After running the disk, get a NEW blank cd, and try to burn some files onto it. If it works right, then that was all that was wrong, if not, then you have corrupted firmware, which is also a relatively easy procedure to fix. Just go to the drive manufacturers website and download the latest firmware fore your drive.

Yes, bad exit sensor. Go to YouTube and watch this video: 5fJHykzkfww

You can get the part on eBay for about $10 and it's a fairly simple 15 minute fix.

No Sound

1. Check you sound volume control in the Windows XP task bar the (speaker icon).
2. left click here and see if you have it muted. If so take the check out Master volume box.
3. Remove any other check marks out other consecutive box as needed.
3. Check the volume slide in the program itself to see if you have it lowered and see if you have the mute box checked here also.
4. check the "device manager" in the "control; panel and see if there is an (!) mark at any of the device listed here and click and got to properties to see if the driver is loaded for the device. If not then update the driver for the device. There are steps for this in "help and support" under the "start" button in the lower left hand corner of your screen which will give a "troubleshooting" window follow the steps or prompts.
5. Some sound cards may need to be re installed that is remove the sound card from the pci slot in the PC ( this will require you to remove the cover and unscrew the card. Careful you will need to be grounded with as ground strap which will resist the static electricity that is generated by surrounding materials such as carpet or clothing.
6. shut the pc down then start it up again ( without the card installed.
7. Shut down again and then install the sound card in the pci slot which you pulled it
from.
Start the PC again. You should then see a window saying "new hardware found" follow the prompts and screen instruction to reinstall your sound card. You will need the original cd that came with the card or you will need to download the driver for the card if you don't have the cd from the manufacturers site.

I have gateway conputer windows 98 ,I upgrded the graphics card to Herculies which is ok , also I upgraded to sound blaster 5.1 live , I can here music from the speakers from the software installed, but...

Hi

the issue is that you have not connected a 3-4 pin wire from the CD drive directly to the sound card.

You will hear sound if you connect your speakers or head phones to the small plug in front of the cd drive.

You will need a audio cable between CD drive and the Sound card.

here is the cable: http://www.pcpartscollection.com/audcabforcdr1.html

sold on the above page for example, or available locally I'm sure in almost any computer repairer. or www.ebay.com

Show this picture or say that you need a audio cable between CD drive and sound card. they will know what you mean (or should)

You need to connect this wire on the cd drive back, next to the other connectors (it has 4 pins)

it also reads AUDIO

other end goes to the sound card, where there are 4 pins aswell, should say CD in or AUX.

My Laser printer prints lines or streaks on every paper

The questions sound like they came out of a A+ exam.
You did not provide enough information to accurately troubleshoot your issues. The following solutions are my first assumptions based on what you've typed.

1. Clean the printer. Usually caused by dirty drum, toner cartridge, rollers. Could also be caused by faulty drum. More details to resolve better
2. Check printer for paper, check tray settings in printer defaults under printer and fax settings, if it is a special function in word such as a mailout, check printer tray settings under mailout. Also check to ensure proper paper size is specified in word.
3. When booting computer, press F8 BEFORE it gets to the Windows XP splash screen, then select "Safe mode" or "Enable VGA mode", log into windows and check your display settings for you graphics adapter. This can be found in the control panel. Try setting it to a lower resolution. Check to make sure you have the proper VGA drivers installed.
4. Floopy cable is most likely connected wrong, Open chasis and flip connector that connects to back of floppy disk drive.
5. Printers printing jibberish is usually caused by incorrect printer drivers being installed. Download printer drivers from manufacturer's website, uninstall old drivers and reinstall new drivers.
6. Lots of reasons for bad DVD burning. Uninstall/reinstall buring software. you can download a free dvd recording software from http://infrarecorder.org/. If that works, perhaps your current DVD Burning software is not compatible with Vista. May also be faulty media or drive.
7. Windows XP Installer probably doesn't have the drivers built in for your specific SATA controller. Determine the SATA chipset by looking at the card (if it is a card) or looking on the motherboard to determine the motherboard brand and model. go the the motherboards site to download newer drivers, copy to CD and during Windows XP CD boot, press F6 when prompted to specify SATA drivers from the CD. You will need to extract the drivers from a compressed state (if applicable) before burning to the CD
Failure to detect a drive can also be caused by faulty hard drive.
8. If the comptuer just reboots without warning, probable cause is bad capictors on motherboard. Open chasis and look at the cylinder towers on the motherboard. Check for tops that are beveled or seeping a thick substance. If you see beveled capictors or electrolyte coming out, the caps are bad. Unless you are an electrician, you will need to replace the board to resolve this issue.
9. Check for power on speakers, ensure speakers are plugged into proper jack on sound card, in control panel, check to ensure volume is turned up loud enough. Check the device manager to ensure sound card drivers are properly installed and there are no issues with the device.
10. Not enough info to diagnose, change your subent to 255.0.0.0 or change the IP of you computer to 146.181.23.21.
