Question about Maytag Dishwashers
There is a small motor on the back of the cup, inside of the door. This is a wax motor. It is a small red plunger style motor with two electrical connections.
If the mechanism is not worn or broken then the power to the motor needs to be checked with a multimeter to verify if it is getting power. If it is then the motor needs to be replaced.
If you are able to get an entire latch assembly this is the preferred replacement since there is a rather complex series of linkages and springs which need to be aligned properly. It is also a good idea to replace the latch grommet at this time since these are prone to leaking.
The motor assembly replacement will solve this issue over 90% of the time. f the motor does not get power then the controller is the next likely issue.
